Hey there!

Not sure what the issue is here, but for some reason I can’t get this specific website to load on my PC. I’m on my phone at the moment and it’s working fine, but the page just keeps idling out.

No issue on other sites, and I’ve followed instructions to check my block lists (none) and restarted, made sure my browsers are fine.

It’s been an issue for a couple days, and I know it worked before.

Any ideas?

Assuming you've already cleared cookies, try pinging the site from the PC to see if your computer can talk to it. From a windows command prompt, enter:

ping literotica.com

You should get a reply that looks something like this:

1734210502828.png

If that works, try typing the IP address directly into the browser address bar:

http://216.150.65.200

If it doesn't work, the site could be blocked by your firewall or by the ISP.

Thanks drusus. I was actually going to reply but you seem to have it well in hand.

Thanks so much for your response (both of you)!

Yes I’d cleared cache, tried other browsers with no change.

I cleared it again just in case, and then ran the ping tests you suggested - first for Lit and then for another random adult site.

It looks like the issue is pretty specifically for this site and I’ve checked my firewall as far as I can and I can’t see any websites blocked there - so does that mean I need to talk to my ISP?

Seems a bit odd for them to block Lit and not other sites so you might want to check a couple of other things before you do that. Is your phone connected to the same Wi-Fi as your PC? If so then it's not the ISP as the phone would be blocked as well.

Try switching your antivirus and firewall off for a minute and see if you can connect. Also check this file to make sure that there are no entries related to Lit or its IP address.

c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

That file looks like it’s just blank - it says it’s a test file and there’s nothing listed.

And yes, my phone is on the same WiFi which is what was confusing me so hard.

I’ll try switching off the antivirus in a bit and let you know.

Okay, I just tried turning them both off and then I tried to open the site, but no change.

It’s still happy to work on my phone, it still times out every time on my computer.

The funny thing is, I swear this was all working a few days ago on there. That’s how I made this account.

Did you try pinging it when the firewall was switched off? If you can't get a response from a ping then the browser will just spin its wheels and do nothing.

You could try bring the PC up in safe mode, then trying the ping.

I did, I got the same results on the ping.

I’ll figure out how to boot into safe mode and report back later in the day, thank you for all your help.

Good luck with it. I won't be on later so will pick it up again tomorrow.
Okay!

I’m back, and sorry it took me a minute.

I’ve gotten into safe mode, and there is no change - the same issues with pinging and the same issues with the browser window not loading.

The site *does* load if I enable vpn though. Which has other issues but at least gives me a limited work around?

Good to know it's working with VPN.

Could you have set a non-default DNS on your PC? If you look at Settings->Network->Ethernet it's usually set to automatic and picks up whatever your ISP gives you. You can also check this in the command prompt with:

ipconfig /all

If you do that with the VPN on and off you should see a difference in DNS settings. Also check first three entries in the subnet mask are 255.255.255. The last one is usually .0 or .255.

Is it a home computer or a work computer?

If it's a home computer and you're in the USA, it's possible your ISP has decided to block Literotica, but, unlikely, unless your ISP operates in a state which has recently legislated unfreedom of information.

Not consciously!

The fact that it was working fine a few days ago is really strange to me too, as (other than a Windows update ?) I don't know what if anything has actually changed in that time. Could there be something in that?

I can see the DNS server assignment is Automatic in Settings / Network / Ethernet, and I can see the difference in subnet mask settings with VPN on and off.

With VPN off it's 255.255.255.0 (on the Ethernet adapter)
With VPN on it's 255.255.0.0 (on the VPN adapter)

It's a home computer, and I haven't had any issues with my phone on the same wifi - if it's my ISP it should be blocked both ways, right?

I'm in Australia as well if that helps.

That is very odd. The fact you can access it via VPN and phone, and eliminated other possibilities, suggests a network issue with your PC. You may be blocked via your ISP but they usually post a message about trying to access a blocked site. It might be that the DNS tables on the DNS server(s) that you use have somehow been incorrectly updated - if so, they'll probably fix themselves via standard propagation in less than 48 hours.

P.S. and just as I write this, Lit Chat has gone down. So, probably server/network issues.

I am very invested in this connection drama now I have to say.

I have to ask...on your phone are you connected to your wifi at all? or are you useing data? Just a suggestion to narrow down if its the connection itself? But.....the vpn does make me wonder if its the ISP or the computer being weird with your pc. Did your vpn set you in the same country but a different state?

But I will be honest...I have never heard of an ISP blocking anything...I have to put it out there...I have worked for 5 different isp's (although its been at least 5 years since I last worked in IT) and 3 of those were American and I have never known them to block anything? Although most of the connection problems were things not being connected correctly.

But yes I am following this because I really want to know. But I mean I suggest anyone have a vpn anyway honestly lol.

I mean you’re probably right (and thanks for your investment! Me too haha)!

It’s probably partly sheer frustration that This Should Work, but also my streaming service gets shitty at me when I’m using a VPN so I have to make sure I swap between them instead of just… checking out Lit when I want to, or half-watching Bridgerton as I try to write my first story.

But that’s a workable frustration, while I hope that things clear up with time (maybe the DNS tables billrokra suggested?).

In the last few days my VPN has magically put me in the same country and two foreign countries without so much as a blink, so it really does feel like the world saying “fuck you in particular, PL’s puter” 😅

A windows update shouldn't make a difference but it could be that.

You said you were able to ping another adult site, but it's probably worth trying some more to check that you haven't accidentally activated some sort of adult content blocker on the PC. Hit up a few other sites and see what you get.

Can you log in directly to the chat page? It's on a separate IP address so try going straight to chat.literotica.com

Yes, I couldn't think of any reason that would impact things either (and I hadn't thought of it until now) but just trying to figure out what's changed in the past few days?

No luck on the chat page, although billrokra mentioned it's gone down so that could be a false positive. Is it down for you at the moment? But yeah, that's another page I could access before, and now I can't.

More ping feedback... for the tldr, Lit still times out (including chat, which again may be a false positive right now unless it's up for you), while three other sites are fine.

Ok so....*takes a breath and lets it out.* I have attempted to run a couple of codes on your name Lexi....as stupid as this sounds....I ran the codes to unban you...not that you were banned in the first place...but I have literally seen times that someone cannot get in for what ever reason and the unban codes seems to.....I don't know? Resets something? Kicks the server in the ass to let you in? I am not sure...i am kind of hoping it helps but if it does not...well it can't hurt at this point.

It could also be being blocked on your router. If you know how to log into it, check to see if it’s being filtered out there.

Thanks for trying, I was really hopeful that would help (and I got a different version of "no", which is maybe interesting?) but ultimately no real change. This is what I got instead:

I don't know how to do that - I did hard reset the router, and also wouldn't that have issues with my phone using the same wifi?

Happy to go in and check if we think it's likely (and I can figure out how).

At this point I'm just really hoping it starts working as mysteriously as it stopped :/

Thanks so much everyone for your help.

Chat's up and running so it looks like your computer isn't seeing that either. If those other sites aren't blocked it's unlikely to be an adult content blocker.

A few more things to try. Can you access literotica.net? Either on your browser or through ping. If you google the keyword literotica you'll get a few different sites including a reddit page. Can you access any of them? Also try going to literotica.com via google rather than directly.

I don't know how to do that - I did hard reset the router, and also wouldn't that have issues with my phone using the same wifi?
This might be the problem if your phone is still using the mobile service DNS address, even when it's on Wi-Fi. That's worth checking.

I live in Australia where the OP is, and ISPs blocking sites definitely can be a thing, though I haven't experienced it with Lit myself.
