Do Admins Exist on this Website?

I submitted a story. It got rejected. I submitted it again and included note requesting they please reconsider, and if they decide to reject it again, to please provide a reason. Once again, the story was rejected without feedback.

I have followed the site's rules. The story is grammar checked, spellchecked and the characters are of-age. It's a relatively tame romance story. The only snafoo I could imagine there being is that I used HTML format coding to indent paragraphs. The coding should not show up on the published webpage. Even if this was an issue, there is no reason for admins to not make this niche reason evident after two rejects.

It's becoming clear to me that this site uses an automated system / AI to check stories. Does anyone even manage this website in general? Because I can't help but notice several threads concerning a lack of helpfulness or responsiveness from admins. It is very discouraging. This is how to wall out new content and stagnate a website.

I had a story rejected a few days ago. The Sent Back tab clearly showed why. I even posted about it.

FWIW, I suspect (partly based on that experience) that there's an automated scan that will reject some stories, and probably auto-approve some writers unless the scan picks up a problem. All the rest, Laurel has to approve manually.

This is why I don't bother posting my stories here.

Very disheartening to hear of this. In 20+ years, I've had one or two come back with the reason's noted, fixed them and got approved quickly. The sheer volume submitted must be overwhelming to Laurel, 7 days a week, X 365.

I'e had two sent back. Notable is that I haven't posted many.

The first one which was completely rewritten was sent back with boilerplate type reasons.

The second, which I later asked to be deleted, had a specific and easily correctible reason. From what I hear, the former is typical and usually means editing will fix it.

My $.02 after my vast 7 months' experience.

I tried just posting a simple very G rated photo on my profile. It got rejected so I tried another one, and another one, and another one with the same result, Spoke to one of the mods in the rooms and was given no help. Sent a request to admin..........and just heard crickets. I just gave up.

I've actually contacted admin from my other pen name and its been over 3 months and there's nothing. There was a time when Laurel would respond in a couple of days. Now it feels like its never going to happen. I get that the site is growing and there's a lot of things that need attention but over 3 months and no response is a little too much.

If a story gets rejected, you'll get one of a set of generic responses, usually couched as a set of questions. You should always get something.

The site doesn't publish indented paragraphs. That's probably the reason for rejection. Remove that html and resubmit.

The site uses a standard publishing format, which you can see by looking at any story. Left margin, right ragged, no indents.

Yes, there's a site editor, armed with a set of word bots, most likely.

I doubt that. Lit is the world's largest erotica writing site by a wide margin, and publishes more content now than it did five years ago.

I'd say your story has been rejected for formatting issues. Fix your html so it's the same as every other story, and resubmit.

What is the issue you want addressed? Perhaps someone else can assist?

It's possible that you don't have enough posts yet, to post an avatar. At one time (years ago) you needed 50 or 100 posts to get an avatar - I think it's a much lower number nowadays, but that might be the issue. There might be something in the FAQs about it, don't know.

It's nothing to do with Chat Room mods though, it's a site administration thing.

right now the issue doesnt exactly matter anymore. but it did turn me off because in the past when i was posting under my different pen name Laurel would usually get back within a few days and now it seems like months can go by and a site owner will just not respond. and like i said i understand there IRL and then you have to take care of the site but i mean over months you can slowly start pushing out replies. Its quite saddening to see. So I just thought I'd put my experience here is all.

Which is typical. Many authors have rejection issues with their first stories, as they figure out how things work. We all get there in the end.

Did you fix the reason for rejection and get it published?
The second, which I later asked to be deleted, had a specific and easily correctible reason. From what I hear, the former is typical and usually means editing will fix it.
Your issue then, not a site glitch.

One of my stories was rejected once. At first, I thought they didn't give me any feedback, but two months later, I realised they had—I just assumed it was part of an automated reply. It turns out the reason was that I held future parts of the story hostage for comments. Before figuring that out, I started a long thread listing everything I thought was wrong with my story. Everyone gave different reasons why it might have been rejected, but it turns out we were all wrong.1759826779381.png

What “mods in the rooms”? None of the moderators (chat side or forum side) can help with profile images. We are not involved with it.

No minimum posts anymore, although I wish there were. A lot of the scam bots do get their profile images in, always a stolen image from the web. These accounts never even make it to 100 posts.

Did you fix the reason for rejection and get it published?
Yes on both. One I've kept. The other I posted a "story" requesting it be removed from consideration and it was. FTR, that's the best way to communicate logistical concerns with the admins.

Your issue then, not a site glitch.
Absolutely.

I looked at this thread hoping to find an answer to the question, “Do Admins Exist on this Website?” After reading the responses on this thread and also all the threads about stories pending for weeks and some cases over a month, a better question may be, “Why are not the Admins responding to the problems that authors are having with submitting their stories? This pending problem has been happening for over two months, and I have not seen any response from the site administrators. Has anyone heard back from Laurel in the past two months?

The Site Admin is Laurel and she is basically it. It's a one person show in terms of stories.

The Pending problem has been raised by numerpus people to Laurel but there has been no response to anyone - including users who Laurel normally responds to.

The best approach to a story being in pending for more than a week (this happened to me and my stories usually go thru without any issues) seems to be to delete the submission completely, and then resubmit. That worked for me, so my recommendation for anyone whose story sits in pending for more than 7 days is to try that.

There are a couple of threads (way more than that actually) on the Authors Hangout on this issue, and until we hear from Laurel or Manu, this is the best that anyone can suggest.

And the last time I heard from Laurel was in June - so quite a ways back. Other people have heard from her more recently but nothing in the last few weeks, altho the Halloween Pages went up......
