Nicknames

I have red hair. So I have collected many, many nicknames.

Fun fact: it’s curly when it grows out! And I was in junior high during the heyday of Ronald McDonald. So.

My favorite nickname was an army one: “Tracer.” Short red hair in a world of flat, drab colors.... it’s an obvious one, but it took a clever Ranger instructor to come up with it.

Good times.

I'm also a natural red head. The nick names I've acquired because of it are hard to shake.

I was on a debate team once. Our senior members were all known as masterdebaters.

Hehehe.

I just remembered another one. I had the habit of carrying candy in my purse. Actually still do. Got known as the Candy Lady. People used to come up to me and ask for candy.

Also got called Sugar Baker. Went through a period of many years where I was baking stuff almost daily to take to work. If I wasn't baking, I was making candy. I got accused of making people fat. Hey! I didn't make them eat it! So I switched over to making stuff like trail mix which IMO isn't any less calorie laden but it is perhaps a tad healthier. I also brought in a lot of raw veggies. Turned out they preferred my baked stuff so I was given the gift of a cookie press when I moved away. I baked a HUGE box full of cookies and mailed it back to my former coworkers for Christmas. Told them to appreciate it as that would be the last box they would get from me. $70 for postage!

I just remembered another one! Used to work for an inventory company. Had two bosses both named Dick. We gave them nicknames to differentiate. Dorky Dick and Big Dick.

In reality, Dorky Dick was the taller of the two. He had one of those comb over hairdos, wore pants that were too short and those ankle type boots with the chunky heels. The pants were so short that you could see the tops of his boots.

Big Dick had a thing for me and wound up fudging things and giving me a series of promotions so I would make more money. Although he was pretty good looking, he was also kind of sleazy. Like moving in too closely and putting his arms around me as I worked. He was married too. Thankfully he never put any real major moves on me aside from the touching which I tolerated only because I knew it was to my benefit. Had he tried to take it further, I likely would have quit.

My nickname is one that mum gave me, It rhymes with my name. Mum still calls me it on occasion. Not so much any other family member. But mums get a free pass don't they

My given name doesn't lend itself well to nicknames, but my dad gave me a couple when I was young that I won't repeat here. Other than those, I never had any nicknames/pet names until I came to Lit.

Munky called me Honeybuns. AM1967 called me Honeypie. Those both make me smile. Two other people in particular have been very creative in coming up with all sorts of pet names, often based on Honey or the idea of 'sweet,' and I really enjoyed those while the givers were around. Definitely made me feel chosen and cherished.

I also have a Brit friend who calls me things that are more commonly heard in the UK, that's fun, too. He called me 'chook' once, which is Australian slang for chicken, and a common pet name down there.

elli calls me Honey, or Mum if my daughter is around. Farawyn and cookie call me Hiney. :D 😍😍

Mostly I just get called Mom. ;)
