I keep hearing names mentioned as being made available for the draft, but it's always players from teams with salary cap problems, personal problems, or over the hill types. If you were building a team would you say thanks, but no thanks?

wheat among the chaff

If done well ,the expansion draft is a valuable part of building a new team. Some teams such as the Raiders has made a reputation with castoffs. With the size of an NFL roster, all sources are needed to fil it,for depth ,if not for starters. It also can be a source for veterans that can squeeze out another year or two while tutoring the youngsters that will be the future stars. With decisions made these days as often on salary cap as talent, there may be a gem or two available.
Is the expansion draft the answer................no
Is it a building block.......yes

Why are all of the names of players to be offered to the expansion draft being made private?

if it's the NFL.....

it must be about money.............
disguised under a term such as "competitive balance"

not sure but think it has to do with contracts

here in Washington while not official it is common knowledge who is on the list

What secrets are kept in Washington?

What do you feel about your new head coach?

What about Marty?

You can expose your players for a number of reasons. Denver already made their list public. They have Leon Lett on it who was a bust, but will offer salary cap relief, and Bill Romanowski, who still has gas in his tank, If they lose him, it will give more time to his successor Ian Gold.

Sometimes you can get a vet that you can no longer afford.

As for spurrier, be interesting to see if he does as well as Marty did in his firs season, but I highly doubt it.

what happened to Marty in Washington was best explained by Sonny Jurgenson..........Marty the GM got Marty the coach fired

when a p[layer such as Darrel Green says the past year was his "worst in my football life".....................I think that explains much of what happened

The team has a long list of free agents this year and if Marty was still here there would have been another exodus of talented players
While at the end of the season there was a perception of calm in the clubhouse, there was still a lot of resentment of Marty........in one season he managed to burn his bridges here
This year the Redskins were a typical Marty team..........won the unimportant games enough to look respectable or good............but when a season or a playoff is on the line....they crumble

Spurrier ???.......don't know yet.....he would have been better off if he had taken the job last year....there was a better talent pool among the players......and he would have had a defensive coaching staff he wouldn't have had to touch. Now he has to build from scratch.
Hopefully next year the team will be exciting enough to keep me from clicking over to Gilligans Island for thrills

Romanowski, the spitter, him and his wife can form the Pharmecutical wing of thier new team...

Yeah, but Green is a gazillion years old as were many of the players.

I once belonged to a brand-new high school. We needed to establish a tradition in wrestling and we had a coach that belived the only way you could become a good wrestler was by wrestling. So we did.

State champs the first year.

I think Marty's problem, and one which he addressed quickly by cutting George, was every player on the team thought he was special and divine. Enough to bring the team to glory by himself.

And that ain't a team!
