Is anyone here old enough to remember when news agencies had integrity? Have they always lied or are we able to pin point this travesty?

The freedom of the press should come with a responsibility as well. Seems most have forgotten that.

Agenda this, bias that, spin here and more spin over there.

It's nauseating!

Unfortunately the Fourth Estate - a free, unbiased press operating as a watchdog over government and business - is long gone.

On the local level news media via various formats the Fourth Estate still exists and provides a great service to communities and residents.

On the national level the news media has been replaced by propaganda and advocacy. Maybe it has always been that way but it is now over-the-top and unabashed in its advocacy role. The "news" media has a role to play and it wields its power to influence perception towards a targeted goal. The "news" media has also blurred lines with the entertainment industry and public education to build specific narratives on multiple fronts. For the most part that narrative is left to far left on the political spectrum on a consistent basis.

Not sure where the change from unbiased, critical observer to blatant propaganda machine but some say Dan Rather is the grandfather of fake, biased news. Now Rather - whose infamous forgery effort blew up in his face - is a hero to a media that has no shame in its bias creating fictional "news." And since there has been a 40 year change in public education eliminating critical thinking skills there are generations of citizens who cannot differentiate biased and phony narratives.
