So, I accidentally found the News Updates section on my dashboard. But it looks like it doesn't get used much.

I can't even work out how to post 'news'. Does anyone use this feature? How?

Thanks for that. I as thinking about trying to reference Manu to see if he would comment.

For all I am apparently in unrealistic fan of the site and them, I will freely admit that they do a terrible job of communicating with the community, both readers and especially with the authors. This is a symbiotic relationship between the pair of them, the readers and us. We all need the other two. I suspect Laurel and Manu grouse about us (and the readers) as much as we grouse about them and the readers.

You know, many among the AH-ers will reluctantly admit to that, although they'll say insufficient communication rather than terrible. And then in the next sentence, they will come up with an excuse for Laurel.

You haven't done any of that, so I might need to downgrade your fan status. :p

I'm sure you remember the late KeithD. He used to criticize Lit sometimes on the account of seeing all of this as a partnership between us, authors, and the site. I liked that thought very much at the time, but I've realized since that it isn't true, sadly.

There is no partnership here. We've no leg to stand on. Even if all of us AH-ers deleted our accounts tomorrow, Laurel would hardly bat an eye. And that's because there are thousands of authors out there ready to replace us with their own writing. Lit just needs new stories, that's all, and the quality of writing is barely a factor.

I am actually too recent to remember KeithD. I have only been writing here for just over 6 months and on the forum for about 5.

Most offan-dom comes from my experience with starting companies (although none direct to consumer like this) and knowing many others who have started companies who are direct to consumer. I respect them for what they have accomplished -- not many direct to consumer continue to thrive after a quarter century -- and what they have avoided -- most that survive succumb to enshittification by this point. That said, I think they have problems. I will stick with terrible to describe their communications, but I do not think that is really in either of their personalities. Like many of us, I expect they are both mostly introverts. The slow pace of change has been a mixed blessing; it certainly is frustrating, but I think it has probably partially protected us from any possibilities of enshitification. Of course, the success of the site is probably the root cause of the slow change; I think they are too swamped day to day to do as much planning as one would expect.

Is this enough excusing their behavior to renew my fan card?

Some of us would rather focus on the positives of what this place brings us. Are there faults? Sure. Do they impact me in any meaningful way? No.

Considering how much time I spend here, I'd rather not let myself become worked up and bitter about things that really don't matter.

Keith, when he was under his former longtime name SRPLT71 used to get green E's. Then he took the site to task in regard to unfair practices where monthly winners weren't getting paid, and in the thread he was called a troll by the site and never received another Green E.

It's a fine line, because yes, many things here are frustrating, and yes authors are why this site makes whatever money it makes and everything exists because of us.

On the other hand, they provide this platform to us for free, so like I say to trolls, you're not paying, so stop griping.

Case to be made for either side. I do agree though that the hesitation to ever criticize by a lot of people is annoying. The site gets it wrong sometimes and its not a personal attack on them to say that. Another extension of the fear that something might happen to a story or they'll fall out of favor.

Totally untrue, over the years, Laurel and I have had disagreements on the board and privately, but I have always been well taken care of here if I need something because I think she respects people saying their mind, unless you're being crude about it.

I find that hard to believe.
You are a very, very active author. Considering how much time, effort, and passion you put into your stories, you must yearn for feedback and interaction. I can see it in the way you compulsively link your stories at every turn. I mean, it does become too much sometimes, but I understand it. We all want to talk about our stories endlessly. We all want engagement.

So how does the fact that Lit could so easily improve our interaction with readers not affect you in any meaningful way? We shared ideas here in AH - and some of them are so easy to implement - that would enhance our interaction with readers significantly. But the site, to bring up again @iwatchus' point, doesn't care to even hear what we want or to reply to any of it. You may have made your peace that this is all you are getting when it comes to feedback, but I'd say that not having more of it impacts you in a meaningful way.

Considering how much time I spend here, I'd rather not let myself become worked up and bitter about things that really don't matter.
If you'd said I'd rather not let myself become worked up and bitter about things I can't change, then I'd be inclined to agree.
Also, I know many won't believe me, but I'm not really bitter about all of this. I used to be during that bombing thing, but in time, I made my peace with what Literotica is. The only thing that irks me is people reacting so badly and attacking me personally whenever I post my critique about Literotica. Saying what I believe to be the truth is important to me; it's a compulsion of a sort. So from my point of view, there's a touch of gaslighting in what some people here do when that happens.

I'm getting more interaction and feedback than I ever have before. I've not lost anything, because I never had much feedback before. So the status quo remaining as it is *doesn't* have a meaningful impact. "But you could have so much more!" you say. Well, perhaps, but I'd get more comments if I published in LW, and more views if I published in T/I.

As it is, even my lowest-viewed stories are getting a thousand views and half a dozen comments that they wouldn't have without this site.

You do you. Just stop calling people fanboys, bootlickers, apologists or whatever for not sharing your negative opinions.

I'm not sure why you keep saying that. It's not true. I've used "fanboy" and "apologist" and "asskisser" a few times maybe, but not bootlicker. BUT, I've only used that on people who started throwing jabs at me for criticizing Lit, not on people who disagreed or ignored my posts. That distinction is very important.
