Been reading lots of stories on Lit, and would love to give writing one myself a try.

What should I keep in mind? General hints and pointers would be great!

What do people here want to read?

How detailed should characters, atmosphere and surroundings be described?

Do people prefer lots of dialogue or more descriptive stuff?

Oh, and I need ideas for a plot!!

Thanks.

Howdy and welcome.

As for story ideas, if you don't have any of your own, there is a thread on the Lit Forum where people spout ideas that they want authors to write.

As for advice on how to write, scan this Author's Hangout forum. There are LOADS of good threads on it about technique. Also in the Writer's Resources section of the site there are many articles about writing designed for the beginner.

Welcome Lovepotion69

Start with a category that gets you excited. Check out what is already posted. Pay attention to things like use of dialogue and length of descriptions.

Seems like some of the best first posts deal with situations and erotic encounters familiar to the writer. It is a cliche by now but "write what you know" still has legs.

With over 200 BB posts, you are familiar with this site. Use that knowledge to your advantage.

Welcome. Best of luck to you and your writing endeavors.

New Writer Feedback

Hello Love,

There are also helpful articles in the How To section. My suggestion, if you want to write something erotic, is write a story that gives you a tingle. If it lights your fire, it'll likely please someone else to.

As for getting started, just write something. Then keep tinkering with it until it you like what you see. There is no hurry, take your time.

As for what people enjoy, go into the TOP STORY section and read some of the stories that readers have voted their favorites. You can see what are the favorites overall, or within a specific category, Lesbian, Humor, Celeb., etc.

The good news is no one has been shot yet for trying.;)

Good luck. Larry

Pick something that you like. Don't try and copy anyone else. There are many, many different types of readers on Lit, so someone will enjoy your style and trying to pander to one person will alienate another.

My best tip is to write from a favourite fantasy. You'll have most of the details worked out already, you'll be passionate about the subject and you know at least one person will like it. My worst experience as a writer has been posting a truly terrible story ("One Cup of Coffee" in case you were wondering) that I tried to write for a target audience and ended up with a story that nobody liked, least of all me.

The Earl
