I'm brand new here. I submitted two stories and after 6 and 5 hours respectively, they are still listed as "pending." Typically, how long is a story pending before it is published?

Thank you

For a new author, it COULD take up to 7 days.
Once Laurel starts seeing you post more often that time gets cut down to like a day or two at most.
BE PATIENT.
Laurel does this all by herself, so it takes time.
Welcome.

First story, could be as much as a week. After that, typically within 48 hours, bearing in mind Laurel takes time off at weekends and holidays, and is awake during typical East Coast USA daytimes.

Illustrated may take up to a month, though. It'll say New rather than Pending once approved, and then go live at midnight EST.

As the other said, a few days. The reason the stories posted by more seasoned authors are reviewed faster is probably due to the site admins becoming more comfortable that we know the rules.

I wonder if it's based on current stories posted or true first. Gut says unless you were particularly memorable, starting back at 1 is new author territory.

"Pending" in the grey box means it's not yet in the queue for publication. Once it goes to "new" in a yellowy-orangey box, you'll know it's due to post on whatever date is listed there.

Newbs get more scrutiny, we think, and dog forbid you uploaded in poetry, audio, or illustrated. You'll be waiting a long while.

They were my very first submissions. I submitted them back-to-back as I had written them in rapid fire succession. I'll be patient and wait based on other responses I have seen. Sounds as if Laurel is very busy.

Yup, just be patient. Priority seems to also go to Contest entries during site sponsored contests. I've been posting regularly, never had any problems, never had a story rejected. But I have one that has been stuck in pending for 6 days at the moment. Why? I assume because she is focused on trying to get the contest stories out there in time for the contest.

Give it a week. ;)

I've submitted 3 stories, all under 1 title, in Chapters. Each one has been returned, however I feel I've followed all guidelines.

Where do I find out why they were returned?

It's actually my story and writing it somehow helped me, like therapy.

Thank you.

When they get returned to you there should be a message saying why.

Common reasons for rejection:

  1. Underage (or borderline)
  2. Rape (there is this confection here about it being “OK” if the woman - it’s 99 / 100 times a woman - “enjoys” it at some point, but that’s just to leave a loophole to support the demand for rape stories)
  3. Snuff - or even excessive violence
  4. Appalling spelling and grammar
  5. Referencing real people unless it’s clearly a parody / satire

Are dogs barred then? Asking for a friend

I think he was making a joke about a typo.

Em - author of equine sex published on Lit

Nah, that wasn't a typo. It was me being Edgy and Sardonic.

Vo - writer of canine sex published on Lit
