Hi everyone. I'm working on my first story, and I've been looking at the categories. I'm not sure where this one should go.

It's about a boy who becomes a sissy, but it also involves some incest and group sex.

Are there some categories that are more important than others? Any thoughts on where something like this might go.

The MC may transition. I haven't decided yet, so I see Transgender, Crossdressing, Incest/Taboo and Group Sex as possibilities. Gay Male is out because he/she has sex with girls, too.

The main story is about his/her journey, so I'm leaning to one of the first two depending on whether or not he/she transitions. I'm just concerned what readers might think about all the other stuff.

Thank you, and I'm so excited about having my first story on here.

When the time comes to submit, you can choose up to 10 tags, so be sure to use them. It helps when people search for stories, and for when they decide whether to read your story or not.

First off, congratulations on working on your first story.

I don't know if you ahem read it, but there is a long time guide for choosing a category: Love Your Readers: Categorires

Im not sure it addresses your specific concerns, but it is good background for thinking about it.

It's also generally a good idea to write the story, or be very near finishing it before making a final choice. In your case, deciding whether the MC transitions or not may be a big factor.

I'd probably make the decision on the MC transitioning or not before you publish anything. That's going to be a pretty big factor in getting it in the right category. Our resident star author for the Trans category may be able to give you the best advice about that category. @ShelbyDawn57
Thank you @Kelliezgirl . :)

I think @dirk2024 nails it. Incest/taboo is a trump category, for lack of a better term. Definitely use those tags, especially for a story like this that could touch so many. As for the transition question, just make it work for your story.

I'm a sucker for happy endings, so for me, it's transition all the way, but I'm not writing your story. 🤭

Good luck, and put a link in your signature, and post a note here when it's published so we can all find it

My recommendation would be Transgender, assuming you're writing the gender issues with sensitivity, rather than gratuitously, and that's the erotic focus of the story. If it's gratuitous, Cross-dressing or Fetish.

Whatever you do, include a Note to the Editor saying what's your preference, and she'll probably put a "This story contains incest themes" at the top.

Group is a bit of a tumbleweeds category in my experience - you get no real idea from the readers how your story is going. That's the last place I'd put anything. It sounds too transgressive for Taboo and Incest - those readers are pretty much a single lane cohort.

A bunch of folk will chime in and say Incest is the trump category - it's not, provided you alert Laurel to the primary kink being something else.

This is how you piss of a whole lot of readers in a hurry. I’ve seen it happen more than a few times. Story is humming along and then somebody kisses their sister… queue the “What kind of sick fuck are you?” comments and 1-bombs.
T/I readers tend to be fairly understanding as long as you warn them up front. “Hey, this story contains gay male content.” “This is a trans-gender story and contains sissification.” It will cost you a few reads, but your readers will appreciate the up front information.
The T/I story I posted a couple of months contains the warning “This story features an incestuous relationship between a mother and son.” Tags may pull someone in from somewhere else. Not all T/I readers like mom-cest.
And definitely read the linked article above. That essay is solid gold for a new poster.

I have a newbie question that may have already been discussed elsewhere, but..

I've favorited a good number of stories that do not appear in my favorite stories list on my profile. When I go back and look at the story itself, the heart symbol is highlighted.

When I go to the author's page, the "added to reading list" symbol is highlighted, but that's all I can really see.

I've never added a story to a reading list, I've only clicked "add to favorites". I'm guessing those automatically get added to a reading list that I've never created, but why don't they show up in my favorites?

It's disappointing when I'm trying to support and show appreciation to other authors, but it doesn't show that I favorited their story.

How long ago did you Favorite them? recently? sometimes the lists take awhile to update / refresh.

I do see several stories on your Favorites list.

Some, a few days, others, weeks and months.
For example, my profile shows I have 26 favorite stories, but only 11 are showing.

Yeah I just noticed that. Definitely weird.

Not sure what the issue is. I suggest finding the missing stories and trying again to Favorite them?

After that I have no idea.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's not that big of a deal, except, when I like an author, I always look through their favorites to find other good reads. I'd like people to be able to do the same on my profile.

Thank you everyone for your input. I finished editing a while ago and am going to let it sit over night giving it one more read through tomorrow before I submit. I think transgender is the best fit with a strong caveat up front to warn readers about the incest and heavy group sex.

I’ll post again once it goes live and, ad I’ve seen other do, will add a link.

Taboo/Incest trumps all.

Congrats on your first story! :)
Not necessarily.

I've got several stories with incest sub-themes that aren't in the I&T category - by request from me. Laurel agreed with my category of choice, and put an Editor's note at the top of the story. It's not an absolute trump category.

There are actually lots of incest stories published in Lesbian Sex. I'm not a fan myself, but some of them score very well.

My personal theory is that many readers (if not most) in that category are male, so they don't care as they are reading voyeuristically, rather than identifying as a character. Hence those readers don't care if a pair of sisters get it on...

Sorry, I know that wasn't really relevant to the OP, but it does seem to give the lie to the rule that incest trumps all.

Incest readers generally expect the stories to follow the Singular Law of Penile Cardinality: there may only be exactly one (1) penis involved in sexual activity.

Less than that is mostly alright, so you can find plenty of twin sisters stories in T/I. But even then, they're more likely to score well in LS due to the lack of adherence to aforementioned law.
More than one will result in severe score ding in T/I, so I imagine those typically go in GM with an editor's note if the author is aware of this fact.

Is there a formula used to calculate the inverse relation between the increase in penises penii to score delta?

Thank you all for the feedback. I went with Transgender because at it's core, the story is about a trans woman discovering her truth and following that through to her true self. That her world just happens to be full of incest and group sex is secondary. I guess we'll see what the admin thinks. As you advised, I added a note to the admin telling them just that. Nervously awaiting it's release. I'll let you know when it drops.
