This is one of the problems (and virtues) of EC: it's ambiguous. You can fit anything there, or nothing.

For me, EC is straight sex without any particular love involved. For the latter, there's Romance.

Wow! Thank you all for all your time, trouble and advice, I am stunned: ask a silly question and get a lot of very sensible answers! Having read all of your replies carefully, followed most of the links and thought about what you have all said I think that Group Sex sounds like the place for a newby to post a story about a threesome.

Once again thank you all for all your help, i am amazed.

It is a low traffic area so be sure to get more exposure for it by promoting it up, there’s a thread somewhere to announce new stories, ask for feedback and add a link to the story in your signature.

More to the thread, though: I’ve has decent response in Group with my only story there. It was posted for a contest, so that might’ve been a contributor, but at 4.8 it’s also one of my highest rated ones.

I’m probably going to post my VD entry in Group as well, unless it turns out that two couples going at it in one room and then swapping is insufficiently groupish.

I only expect HEA stories in Romance. I have used EC for on-going relations in a established (and loving) couple with no other kink involved.

I don't know if that's what's expected, but it's worked reasonably for me thus far.

I was just thinking about this. My friend Billie is working on a story that has a woman fucking both her husband and another man (at different times). The other man is much younger than her, the husband substantially older. She is crossdressing for at least two sex scenes. (It's also a historical drama, but there's no category for that.)

There's a meaningful but not extreme power differential here, too, because one of the parties is very much in the economic power of another (but it isn't a major thing, because the richer one isn't abusing the situation).

I would whole-heartedly recommend AGAINST a newbie posting in Loving Wives (I personally find the abusive comments and 1-bombing ratings a major disincentive for publishing there).

This sounds like a sure fit for the Group Sex category, and possibly works for Erotic Couplings, or Exhibitionist and Voyeur (especially if one of the couple is watching the other hook up with the third). Could be BDSM or fetish if it has those elements. I have also seen a number of "first threesome" stories in the First Time category heading.

Wherever you publish, also be sure to make good use of the tags.

Or those very things which just don't go in any of the niche categories - because they aren't GS or Anal or GM or LS or Mature or yada yada yada yada yada.

There are many stories which unambiguously do belong in EC. I'm not saying a casual threesome is one of them, but EC can hold some of the (more vanilla) other stuff too - especially if the story isn't about another category's content, but it's simply present in the story.

EC doesn't have to be loveless, but if the story isn't more about the love than it is about the instance(s) of physical "coupling" in it, then EC works fine.
