Do you make them? Do you stick to them?

I do, every year. They rarely stick though. Last year I was supposed to date more (I tried but only went on a few dates) I also wanted to attend more munches and parties (I went to one demo, one) exercise (nope)

But I remain optimistic....
I want to do 1-2 unplugged days a week. No Internet, phone, TV. I want to use the time for craft/home projects I've put off.
I want to give waist training a shot. If I can do a couple months, I'll be happy
I am going to volunteer at an animal shelter or cat rescue.

I guess I'll try to do the more munches/events thing again. I'm just so scared to go alone.
I'm so frustrated with the dating, I don't think I'll even try :(

No, I don't think of them as resolutions really.
I do set goals and follow up regularly and it is more extensive around this time of year and when the kids go back to school.
More fun and less work would be the theme now.

We did make a classic New Years resolution though, as a joke two years ago and we are still sticking to it. We promised each other that we would drink more champagne.

Again, goals, not resolutions

  1. New job
  2. New sub
  3. Improve physical health
  4. Improve mental health

Those are the big 4 for me in 2014. 2013 has been a crap year where all 4 of those have suffered / stressed me out / ended. 2014 is my year to rebuild myself to the point I thought I was at at this time in 2012.

I never keep my resolutions, but what the hell?

I've already decided that in 2014, I'm going to do more writing for myself. Will I do it? Probably not. Am I going to try? Yes.

Hope everybody else has better luck with theirs than I will with mine. :p

I don't do resolutions but I do have goals and generally I make progress on those paths.

:rose:

I never make resolutions and never will. You can't improve on perfection, although I have tried.

(^_^)☆ I look forward to the new year. I'm going to work on my confidence and get back into a more healthy lifestyle.

When I was in 8th grade I resolved to never make a new years resolution again.

It's the only resolution I ever managed to keep.

I always end up breaking resolutions but I shall try again

This year I resolve to

* establish an exercise program that I can and will keep up with ( I joined a gym a couple weeks ago and am trying out different classes and exercises to find some that I like)

* begin to be more aware of the food I am eating and make better/healthier choices

* scrimp and save every penny I can for my trip

* finish some of these damn projects around the house. (If I only get 2 or 3 completed, I will consider it a success)

Wish me luck?

Good Luck!
I am trying to do two of those also. Eat better and save more.

These are also close to mine.
Add the save for our trip. We missed our summer vacation because of crazy air fare and it really took a toll. Must not miss this year!

Well fuck, I weighed myself today (my son warned me not to) and I'm up 13 lbs. Add lose that. Poop

Oh! Save more, that's a good one :)

I really need to work on that. (-。-; what else do I cut out, though?

No resolutions - I never keep them.

I just hope to find enjoyment in each day, regardless of how many days there are.

Good luck to all, and a Happy New Year!

Every year I make resolutions and I usually succeed in meeting my goals, but my goals are usually small and specific. This year, my resolution seems broader and more difficult. I've resolved to get a social life and develop deeper personal relationships. I'm only a week in, and I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. I should have chosen a new hobby instead.

lol, I love the associated optimism...

But yea dude, that's def a lofty goal. Its hard enough to find good friends outside of work, let alone reliable and intimate personal relationships. As one who used to be quite into the social scene I will readily admit that despite what one may see on the silver screen or tv, a lot of 'social life' is highly overrated. Any moron can stand in a bar/club/coffee house and meet people. But its finding those people with whom you can establish and build meaningful/thoughtful experiences with that is truly daunting. And once you remove certain elemental aspects (booze, drugs, night-life setting, etc etc) it is harder for individuals to mask their true personas. And that's where, IMO, you find that most folks are quite like yourself. But the 'self' in the sense of self loathing, lacking direction, or feeling unfulfilled.

Again, I can only speak from my own experiences, but if you really want deep personal relationships, you have to first focus on yourself. Find out who and what you are. What interests you, what hobbies and passions you thrive and pursue. Once you get those down, just get out there and do it. Be it exercise, dancing, cooking, whatever and then you will encounter over similar like-minded folks and that's where the real relationship builds. My examples, there is nothing like ascending a back country mountain with a fellow ski bum and shredding the perfect line down, even if not 2 days ago you never had even met that person and 10mos out the year you never see them. Regardless of their outside life, you will remember that experience with them and at least have a more intimate shared experience that, for me at least, fulfills that desire to feel like you're living life and not just watching it vicariously or passively.

Again, this is all just my unsolicited opinion, but I think you are on the right track and I wish you the best for this upcoming year.

Figure out how my new schedule and responsibilities can work with the gym - then get back on it!

Work on dealing with a few fucking goddam anger issues.

Hike more.
