New Years Resolution: Read more stories

So I made a personal goal this year to try and read more stories.

Especially ones from many of you here.

This isn't some tit for tat thing where I'm feeling obligated to return the favor to those of you who read my stories. Although I do fully support the idea of authors supporting authors.

But it's also to simply expand my horizons. To learn more about how you guys and gals do it. To see different styles. Different perspectives.

I'm at a point now in my writing where, while I think I've greatly improved since I first started, I also feel like I'm in a bit of a rut.

I have to stop myself sometimes and wonder if I haven't already written that exact same passage in another story already.

So I'm hoping to simply broaden my knowledge , to learn, to grow my craft.

Oh, and also to be entertained, obviously. 😀

It's gonna be a random process; my reading list is already impossibly long.

Plus obviously there will be some bias to my choices; while I consider myself open minded, there are some kinks that simply don't interest me to read.

I'm trying not to over reach. I'm setting a goal of one story a week. I don't think that's unachievable. And if I do more than that, great.

Looking forward to discovering more of your works, my friends.

Happy New Year.

I'm with you. I never seem to have enough time to do all the things I want to do, but I intend to make an effort to read more on here. Especially - call it tit for tat or not - when I see other writers have favorited or commented on my stories. I'm not sure I'd say I feel obligated to return the favor. But it seems like a decent move. Plus, like you said, potentially entertaining/enlightening/stimulating/all those lovely things.

My latest is less than 7k words. You'd be able to finish it before your coffee/tea goes cold 😇

I try to read one a day or thereabouts. And I still feel like I make no progress whatsoever on my reading list! New stuff seems to go on there much faster than old stuff comes off. But one a day is much better than when I let a week or a month slip by without reading any a day, as has been the case recently. So I'm on the nye resolution reading more bandwagon :)

One a DAY is a great goal, but not realistic for me.

I figured by making my goal one a week, I can easily over achieve some weeks and get two or three stories read and then not feel guilty if I only do one the following week.

Plus maybe I can choose a few longer ones. I always mean to get to some but of course you put it of and then forget about it.

Instead of one a day, I should say like 2-3 lit pages a day. I tend to read longer ones over a few days.

Not my style, not my genre, but well written. I am glad you shared it
I understand. Thanks so much for reading it and giving it a shot. It was an experiment. A story that asks "what if you could write your own life?"... and through the graphic novel that her boyfriend, Dean, is obsessed with and is making an erotic film about -- a detective story -- Lizzy does exactly that. She begins to write the script that slowly becomes her own life. It is a complex story, that needed some setup.
Anyway, I appreciate very much that you read it even though it was outside your genre and style.

I’ve been binge reading lately. Again. Stories I’ve already read, or mining for gems that I hadn’t before. It’s fun but it also breaks through to my own writing and the words seem to flow a little easier for me, much like the tide.

I am in a bit of a funk. I am still reading stories, but commenting a bit less, and haven't saved a story as a favorite since August. As for the writing, I have four stories within a page of being done, and haven't written a word in over a month.

I know and can relate to the writing funk. Can't force it though. It'll happen when it happens.

I try to leave a comment on every story I finish, even if it's just a variation of "nice job."
