Hey everyone, I have been writing on the site for about a month and have a question about where to place a story. I have an incest series going right now entitled Siblings with Benefits I am writing a lot of this in flashback form as the brother and sister are older and are reminiscing about past adventures. In an upcoming installment the sister Megan recounts her first time with a woman. Now I was warned early on that incest stories placed in other catagories will not be well received. so if I keep the title but place in Lesbian it may piss people off on the other hand if I keep it in incest but there is no encounter between the siblings then I would think that crowd would be upset. I also thought about retitling it for one chapter but think that will screw things up for people following the entire series. Help! Please? Lovecraft68

Incest trumps all other categories. If there is Incest, then it should be in the Incest category, but if you write chapters in different categories you are almost certain to annoy someone.

But just posting any story on Literotica is likely to annoy someone. If the sister's encounter with another woman is with a close female relation and therefore is still Incest, then the chapter would still fit in Incest.

Yep, incest trumps. Also, I haven't seen too much success in category hopping with the same series.

The only category that is suitable for chapters in different categories is Novels and Novellas - but even there, if different chapters would otherwise be in different categories if posted alone - the author is likely to annoy the readers.

Those who like Incest stories like Incest.

Those who like Lesbian stories like Lesbian.

Those who like Lesbian Incest - would probably look in Incest.

Every time you write a chapter in another category from the category the first chapter was written in - you lose readers. After three or four category changes you've lost almost everyone.

Chaptered stories lose readers for each subsequent chapter UNLESS each chapter can be read alone without reference to the previous one. If you add category changes as well? No readers, no views, no votes and an unpopular author.

Imagine what would happen if Stephen King, in mid career, had written a Barbara Cartland style romantic novel. He would have lost readers fast and advance sales of future books would have plummeted.

It is not my experience

that changing categories for different chapters, where appropriate, loses readers' interest. My highest-scoring story, in five chapters, is in three categories. As is my second-best rated, also three categories for five chapters.

Now, none of my stories has mass popular appeal. I write in my own voice, and do not pander to the lowest common denominator, on Lit or elsewhere. But some of my stories get high readers' ratings, though on fairly low numbers of readers.

series stories

With the new series stories it dosen't matter as much. I was trying to win the survivor contest so I was posting different chapters in different cats. I am sure it messed up my ratings but now with the new selection of series stories it is all at one place.

There's some flexibility in Interracial. While there's the usual Mandingo-longdong hunky-blackman-takes-blonde-wife-in-front-of-wimpy-hubby, or the requisite black-on-white gang-bang, there's the ability to cross-genre and stay in IR for a series.

Not that this is probably any help to the OP.

Incest trumps. If the story centers on the relationship between the blood relatives, the readers won't necessarily balk at recounting or even engaging in other couplings -- especially if those are used as part of a tease/seduction of the sibling, and you get to the point of putting the siblings in bed.

It's also a category that's open to nearly any coupling -- as long as they share blood. Incest is even one of the few categories besides Gay Male where M on M can fly without completely disasterous results and piles of nasty comments. The bulk of the readership won't even bat an eye at a lesbian encounter.

By contrast, you'll get smashed in nearly any other category for the incest elements.

Incest trumps any category except Celeb. If you write about an actress having an affair with her sibling, it would go in celeb, so it would get the warning at the beginning. Otherwise, as others have said, incest trumps everything.

I disagree, if only because a lot of categories have serious overlap.

Stories can hop pretty freely between erotic couplings and group sex. If the protagonist is a woman, a lesbian chapter would probably be well recieved (although let's face it, it will be hitting the male audience for lesbian more than actual lesbians). A series that starts out erotic couplings could certainly dip into anal, or even mature if it worked for the story.

Still, Incest trumps, as does Gay male. If a series centers around incest, it's not inappropriate to leave every chapter in incest even if one doesn't actually involve sex between related people.

If you want to keep the title, why not place the story in Incest/Taboo but write in a small scene between the siblings too?

Nope. Gay Male trumps even Incest. Try putting a GM incest story in Incest and listen for the hisses.

You might be right. I have never written a gay male incest story, although I do have one in the Incest category about a niece and aunt. A story involving an 18 year old man, living temporarily with his uncle, has started percolating through my head. :)
