Joey had moved to town a little over two weeks ago. Since then he had done nothing but work work work. The little time he did have off he spent apartment hunting to get out of the hotel his company had put him up in. Two days ago Joey finally found a little place in an old building that had been renovated in downtown.

Joey was a fast moving young business man that worked hard. He was good at his job which lead to the promotion of regional manager of a consultant firm at the age of 28. However, the time spent working was time missed on finding romance. Once graduating college he went straight to work to climb the ladder and now he had made it.

It was a Saturday morning in early fall and the city was just turning chilly. Joey who had spent his Friday night unpacking boxes woke up early to finish settling in. Before getting to work he showered and dressed in a pair of khaki shorts and a sweat shirt from the college where he played football at and headed down the street to a small coffee shop he had noticed on the way to work every morning. Waking in the door with his tall 6'2 frame broad shoulder and wavy dark hair hid behind the ball cap he wore Joey turned the heads of everyone in the place. Walking to an empty table right by the front window Cory quickly had a seat and awaited on someone to wait on him.

The jiggle of the bells on the front door signaled a new arrival. A cheerful good morning rang out from whoever it was. The cook began teasing whoever had entered. A few more moments passed before there was a soft tap on his table.

"Good morning honey, What can I get you today?" Rose's soft drawl reached his ears easily in the early morning quiet of the diner.

Rose wasn't a supermodel by any means. Short by most standards, though she preferred the term fun sized, at only 5`2 with pale white skin that in her opinion rivaled snow white's and which she was very proud. Shoulder length dirty blonde hair held back in a silver and pink butterfly clip and bright blue eyes framed by a pair of metallic pink glasses along with a friendly smile greeted him.

Joey was looking out the window when he heard a soft voice greet him. Turning his head he saw a cute little waitress standing handing a menu and a smile. Joey smiled back "good morning mam." taking the menu from her. "how about a coffee black for starters." Joey smiled and opened the menu.

"coming right up she replied to him." and turned and walked away. Joey quickly turned his head to admire the bubbly little waitress "fun sized" figure as she walked away. Opening the menu Joey could smell the breakfast being cooked. Waiting for her to return Joey acted as though he was looking at the menu but was glancing over the top of it to admire the waitress work.

Rose for lack of a better term seemed to hop a little as she walked around the diner taking orders and filling drinks. Stopping at each table to chat a little and occasionally giving few of the people who appeared to be regulars just a little bit of good natured hell this morning.

She came back to Joey's table a large cup of black coffee on a tray. "Here ya go sweetie...any ideas for breakfast..James is our cook today so I'd suggest one of his omelets or she pauses and looks you over. you could be a pancake or waffle kind of guy." her soft smile remained as she offered the two small suggestions and waited.

"thank you mam." Joey replied as she set the cup of coffee down. Her slow long sweet draw was something Joey hadn't seen in a while. Being from the south he knew that there was a different tone to a girl that wasn't from the city. Joey was no city slicker himself growing up in the country was the only life he had known until college.

"well I do love some waffles and pancakes but if the omlets are good! That is what I want. How about a ham and cheese omlet and a order of home fries?" Joey smiled. "and I ain't trying to be nosy mam. But I can tell by the way you talk you aren't from around here are you?" Joey flashed his boyish grin at her under his old ball cap as he picked the mug of coffee up and slowly sipped it.

She smiled. "My accent does kinda stick out doesn't it." she commented lightly "But no I'm not. I'm a transplant from Memphis." she said writing down his order. "Do you want any katchup or anything with your fries?"

Joey smiled as he listened to her speak. "Memphis huh? I actually grew up in northern misssissippi. So have been there a few times. And ketchup would be great....." Joey paused looking at her. "you know I don't think I have caught your name yet?" Joey smiled and handed her the menu.

"You just might get it if you play your cards right." She teases as she walks off to put in the order and check on her other tables. The minutes passed as the diner slowly filled with people and the comforting chatter surrounded Joey. Soon enough, she appeared again with his plate setting it down along with a bottle of katchup before refilling his coffee cup.

Joey smiles as she teases at him not revealing her name. Taking a sip of his coffee be watches as this cute waitress who has caught his attention works the room. A few moments later another server brings his food out and Joey begins to eat. As his cup of coffee runs low he waves his hand catching her eye from across the room. As she makes her way to the table he grins. "well if I can't get your name yet. Can I trouble you for another cup of Joe?" Joey smiles knowing that he has just gave her his name with out her even realizing it.

Rose smirked catching the hint but simply nodded and took his cup. "Your omelette and fires good?" she asked before moving away to refill his cup.

Joey smiled as shebrefilled his glass. "they are magnificent! Good suggestion nameless waitress!" Joey smirked as she sat down the bill on the table. She mentioned coming back to check on him but soon the diner was packed and she was hard at work. Joey reached in his wallet pulling a 20 from it. The bill read 8 dollars. Joey laid the 20 on the table and drew a pen from his pocket.

On the bill Joey wrote. "thanks for the suggestion. It was great. Maybe if you are available you could meet up with me tonight and show a fellow southerner around this big city. " signed Joey with his phone number. Joey took one swig of the coffee and exited the diner with out her noticing.

It was several minutes before Rose was able to start clearing up her table. Her eyes widen surprisingly at the twenty starting at her. The other diners always tipped her fairly and well but this was on par with getting a Christmas bonus in her mind. She paused in her euphoria to take a closer look at the bill finding Joey's number and message, Rose could not help but shake her head and laugh to herself.

*I will be nice to have someone understand me and not look at me like I'm crazy when I talk* she thought to herself as he pulled out her notepad and jotted down his number. Debating as she worked if she would call or not.

Joey left the diner and wondered if he would ever from hear from the unamed cute unnamed waitress. After a short walk through the park to try and walk off the large breakfast he had just eaten. Joey headed home. Since it was Saturday he kicked back on his couch in front of his big screen and turned on the football for the day. Looking up at the clock he wondered what time the waitress shift was over and again and if she would call?

Rose sighed happily as she curled up on the bench outside the diner to wait for her bus home. She'd worked a full shift and despite having been "off the clock" for an hour for her break. She'd still worked back in dish hall since Henry had called in last minute with a cold. She pulled her notepad and phone out of her apron and put Joey's number into her phone. Her thumb resting on the send button. *What's the harm?" she muttered to herself. "At the very least we can see if we can work out a bit of lunch to talk."

She put the phone to her ear and after a moment it started ringing. The number showing an unknown on Joey's id.

Joey was sitting on the couch watching the late game on his tv when he heard his phone ring. Looking down at it the number and the unavailable number showing up. Joey not sure what to do finally picks up. "hello" he said strongly into the phone. Hoping that it was the cute waitress he answered with wonder.

"It's nameless" Rose spoke into the phone her voice obviously holding back a bit of a laugh as she said it. "I'm calling to let you know I got the message you left inflicted on that poor defenseless twenty you left me. How could you do such a thing to such a defenseless bill?" she joked. "Some something or other about food and me being a tour guide." He could hear the smile in her voice even after she paused giving him a chance to speak.
