Why do shoes that look so great, have to hurt your feet so badly?

I am only 5'2" and usually wear 3" heels when going out. Why do pretty shoes have to be painful?

They don't have to be painful.

New shoes of any type are generally a little bit painful until they adjust to your feet unless they're custom made to fit your feet exactly.

"Pretty" shoes are seldom worn enough times to become comfortable -- if they happen to be designed well enough that they'll ever get comfortable.

Women keep buying "Pretty Shoes" that are poorly designed so designers never have to worry about the engineering required to make them comfortable.

Finally, too many women define "pretty shoes" by the standards of Men who never have to wear them. If you redefine "pretty shoes" on some basis other than the effect they have on your calves and butt, your feet will thank you and men will still be attracted to you.

after breaking my leg severly and walking on crutches or my toes for several years, I can now wear high heels no problem.

I don't wear them though, not worth it. Shoes are for me, so I wear what I like and feel good in. I am into shoes but if I can't run in them, forget it. Shoes are often the most expensive article of clothing on me.

I am 5' 2" as well and I have no problem with it. Its kind of fun having a 6' 4" guy lean down to whisper in your ear anyway.

Don't laugh....but you should wear more boots! :D

Seriously! I'm 5'4" and live in heels. I can wear boots with 3" and 4" heels all day, no problem. I can barely walk after an entire day in similarly-heeled pumps.

And the effect they have on men is just an added bonus! :p

Of course, in warmer weather, you have to switch to Plan B.....I find that sandals with wedges or some kind of a platform are much more comfortable than stiletto heels.

Just my 2 cents ~ happy shopping! :rose:

Thanks guys
I do have a couple of pairs of boots that I like to wear. I was just kind of complaining!

I didn't see this mentioned so I thought I'd bring it up.

I have flat feet and I suffered a knee injury, and high heels are murder on me.

However, I've found that chunky heels (and of course, platforms) are nowhere near as painful. Apparently, the sharper the proverbial spike, the more painful it is, to wear. A shoe with a 5" chunky heel isn't half as painful as a 3" spike, to me.

And chunky shoes can be damn sexy.

with one rebuilt knoee and one that is due to be rebuilt any day now, I haven't been able to wear heels comfortably for quite a few years. I have however found that a squared or chunky heel is less painful then the traditional spiked heel.

I have another ?? about shoes tho, that maybe the ladies can help me out with.
Why is it that all the 'pretty' shoes out there are made for narrow feet? I have to buy all my shoes either in wide width or half a size to big if I want them to fit and all the cute lil strappy summer sandals are all to narrow for my fat ol feet.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have absolutely no idea.

We have two options; cringing discomfort or pony hooves.

I wear platform sandals and boots, personally. In one, you can see my small little size 7 1/2 on a size 8 shoe, and the other, I can push that whole "girls-with-guns" Charlie's Angels look.

You don't have fat feet. The "perfect woman" is a stick figure, and that extends to her feet!

I found this today on MSN. I thought it was a cool addition to this discussion. :)

How High Can High Heels Go?

S.

That is quite...um...interesting! :) Thanks,Sheath

And thanks for the input, kaos...the boots that I wore last nite were 3 1/2 inch spike boots with pointy heels. I think I am going to invest in some platforms. That might help to prevent foot problems down the road.

I used to have this problem until I spoke to a podiatrist. His opinion of women's shoes? First, most women wear the wrong size. We like the notion of having small, normal feet. Thing is, most women have bigger, wider feet than they will admit to. Second, high heels are simply bad for your feet. They can lead to bunions and sorts of icky things later on in age. And I'm not talking that later in age! Women in their 30s have experienced foot problems requiring medical attention because of wearing too small, too narrow, too high of heel shoes.

That being said, I have one pair of shoes with a 4" inch. They are worn only in the bedroom and only for a very short time. All of my other heels vary between 2 1/2" to 3" and I make certain to wear a wide width. My mantra? When I put on a pair of shoes in the store they had better feel like an old pair of shoes or I am not buying them. Uncomfortable shoes simply do not get more comfortable. (Unless they are leather and you wear them long enough so they conform to your foot and look nothing at all like they should) The idea that shoes must some how be "broken in" is a myth. Shoes, even mass produced, can feel comfy from the very first time you put them on. Provided you have the right size.

Since I've adhered to these things, I do not own a pair of uncomfortable shoes - and I have more than enough! But each pair of shoes that I have felt like an old pair the moment I tried them on. Even in dress shoes with those 3" heels that are spiked and not chunky. ;) Besides, sometimes chunky just doesn't work well with a lot of outfits.

Perhaps it's because I wear mostly leather shoes, but I've found that a pair of shoes that "feel old" right from the start will stretch out and become "too big and sloppy" if worn every day. (andbeing a man, I usually stick with only one pair of shoes until they're worn out and need to be replaced (or can't be repaired again.)

I think this is one of the prime differences between the sexes! Men have, what, no more than like 3 pairs of shoes at any one time? (That's what my partner tells me, so if he's wrong it's his fault!) Women (well, me anyway) have more shoes than I can keep track of! I do manage to wear shoes out, but those are mostly my tennies that simply fall apart from wear. I don't think most women wear shoes enough to have them stretch out. But then, maybe it's just me!

If you don't count specialized sports shoes -- football cleats can't be worn to play baseball -- then, yep, Work shoes, Everyday shoes, and Dress shoes are all that we need.

Some men may have as many as five pairs, not counting sports shoes, if are the type to buy a Tux or have some other distinctions is what constitutes "dressed up," but three is pretty much the standard.

Gotta love the standards women have to live up to! my sexy pairs of shoes consist of:

3 pairs of sparkly birkenstock strappy sandals
one pair of birkenstock red thong sandals with beads on them
one pair of 5 inch plat form boots ( those only get worn if im going to a SIT DOWN resturaunt or a movie)
one pair of 3 inch platform heels ( i wear them pretty often becuase the give off that whole sexy school girl look, or sexy business lady look depending on what thigh highs i wear them with)
and both of those pairs have my birkenstock foot beds in them especially made for womens shoes

The rest of my shoes are sneakers and more birkenstocks LOL:p
