New Milestones Thread

I don't even know what that makes me then. What's smaller than a gnome? An ant? I could do worse than ant, I guess. They make up 20% of the fauna biomass on Earth, so, eh.

Also, the giants are still people. Judge yourself not on the number of views and followers, but the quality of your work.

I'm lucky if any of my stuff breaks 10k words. Don't sell yourself short. =)
You two are great writers. It is sad that I am getting more views that you.

While I was away on holiday, a scheduled release became my 50th post on lit, which is pretty cool. (Side note is that there's two that I will probably delete soon, so I'm waiting until 52 to do that. Let's ignore this part.)

The best part is that 18 of these releases have been in the last 6 months. Since starting my first long term urban fantasy series, my productivity has been so much better, and after a nice break on holiday, motivation is right back up to keep that hot streak going :)

My newest story dropped 24 hours ago. It’s my 21st story in three years. I move slowly, but that's because my goal has always been to make my readers happy. Very happy.

The milestone this time is that I hit my all-time high for single-day clicks - 7585.

Now, before you rush in to pop my bubble and deflate my ego, I know that "views" are a long way from actual reads. But they're still a metric. Something I did caught someone's eye, and that's worth celebrating.

The story is called The Pussy Pirates, which, yes, has a slightly clickbait title. But it's also completely appropriate to the story, so I went for it. The category is in the Lesbian category, and yes, I know enough about that world to write it with authenticity.

At any rate, I've been slowly building a following, now over 1000 for 20 stories, and I suppose that has helped as well.

So please don't try to bring me down. Right now, with 7,500 views in one day, I feel like the prettiest girl at the prom. So I want to share my good vibes with you all.

That's awesome! No need to defend yourself, that's really cool in and of itself with no stipulations needed :)

Congrats! By any metric, 7,5k people at least glancing at your story is impressive. Imagine your story - your characters, your plot - coming alive in all those minds for a short while! It started in your mind, and now it's in theirs. Isn't that the most amazing thing ever?

That kind of seems like over-selling, since that's the basic reason language exists. Kind of like how saying "we're all star-stuff" sounds impressive, until you remember that basically all matter is star-stuff.
"I was forged in the heart of a star, just like all my friends and my dinner and my socks and my galaxy and everything in it!"

;)😇

Actually most matter was created in aftermath the Big Bang and never became stars.

Obviously. But don't you think it's amazing that you have a picture in your mind, of a character or a situation or a feeling, and now a few words put that same picture into the minds of thousands of other people all over the world?

And maybe they'll forget that picture five minutes later, or maybe they'll remember it, or maybe it will affect them in some profound way. That idea that was inside your head now lives its own life, or a dozen lives, or a thousand.

None of us here might be best-selling authors, or Booker Prize winners, but even so we've touched people all over the world.

No, seems like a feature, not a bug or unexpected outcome. I can't honestly say I'm amazed by that. Or at least, no more amazed than I am by the general awareness that things exist at all.

Well, it's Sunday morning and I'm on my second cup of coffee. My perspective right now it a happy one, so I choose to be amazed.

That's awesome!

And the 1k+ followers is a fantastic milestone, too!

And you ARE the prettiest girl at prom, even despite having been born of ordinary, common star stuff (according to Bamagan)!

Btw, 7 stories a year is good! It means you're writing! More than that, you care about what you write and aren't just spitting out slop! Be proud of yourself. Writing anything better than not writing, and if you're happy, and your readers are happy... I see nothing wrong with any of it.

You rock!

Pff, that might be you, but I’ll have you know that the methane in my farts has only pure, prime grade, extra virgin Big Bang hydrogen in it, without the taint of any stinky stars!

All matter heavier than lithum.
How metal.

I've been writing here for almost 11 months. As I always say, my only regret is that I didn't start writing 10 years ago. It's been a truly wild ride. Some of the hate in the comments and here in the forum has been shocking, but I've also made some wonderful new friends. I also think I've made some people really happy with my writing. The impact numbers are much higher than I would have ever dreamed. I'm at 800K views, 30K votes, 2.5K comments and close to 4K favorites and lists. And sure, my average score is only 4.2, but really, that's not bad at all for LW. Overall, all I can say is thank you Lit for creating this wonderful platform, warts and all. It sucks, but it's also amazing.

A 4.2 average in LW is like a 4.75 in other categories. Good work. Congratulations.

That's a great achievement, congrats!

I also know the feeling of getting a late start, I didn't write my first story until I turned forty and was 42 when I first published one here.

I also did not write here until I was in my 40s, almost 50.I did have the advantage of doing a lot of other writing in my career.
