One reader commented it was well written, but the content wasn’t to her taste. However, the second part was much more to her liking for content. Her remark was that my work is always well written, so there is that to enjoy.

That's why readers are so very weird. If the first chapter wasn't to her taste, why would she read the second chapter? That's just odd, but a testament to your story telling, I guess.

That’s a question worth pondering, about why read the second chapter.

The comment was that it wasn’t to her tastes. Probably didn’t totally approve of the swearing, more swearing, and the naked girl pulling a training in the swimming pool, not to mention Sara Anne discovered her boyfriend was in her Mama’s bed doing the D with her when he was supposed to be the one doing Sara Anne for the first time that evening. Yeah, it got violent. So maybe that was off-putting, but well told?

At any rate, the first chapter scores are below 4.5, and the second is hovering at 4.7. The content changes, the mood changes, and things shift toward focusing on outcomes rather than violent actions. Perhaps violence in a Romance category wasn’t the best thing to write about in chapter one.

Hopefully, chapters 3 and 4 get posted. I sent 3 up yesterday and 4 tonight.

There's a weird habit that some (or perhaps quite a few) people have, of completionism. They read chapter 1, and in their mind that means they're a reader of the series. Or they watch seasons 1-4 of Game of Thrones, and keep watching for no other reason than they started it and that makes them a GoT watcher.

I've noticed it myself with forum threads: long after I've lost interest in the topic or the discussion, I keep clicking to read the latest posts. It takes a deliberate awareness and a decision to opt out before I can stop.

I don't think its that odd. How many times with people give a show more than one episode before deciding nah, this does suck? It doesn't cost anything to read here so not like its a real investment of anything but some time.

Hell, I watched a season and a half of rings of power before finally giving up on it getting better.

Well. okay, I'll admit the last few episodes I saw were just about mocking it with the wife

Never in my life had I thought of writng a dream sequence about my dead wife making sweet lesbian love to my feline lover. but there it is. And it is by no means the weirdest part of the story.in fact, it might be the least weird. Where elseccan readers vicariously experience receiving anal sex from a cat's tail?

You never know unless you try.
It was a stretch but I managed.

In my case, i just played the plot as if she was a himan female, but pictred it playing out in my mind with her feline features, and worked those into the action. I focused greatly in my storty on the inner thoughts and feelinga of the MMMC, whose feelings were amzingly like anybody falling unexpectedly but irresistibly newly in love with a female who he could not fully trust to be faithful.

That's far from the only approach that might work.I'm currently reading @anthrodisiac's long and complex series about a lonely human male picked up in a bar by a zebra. The rest of the series is set up by the zebra insissting that she won't continue the relationship until MMC has sex with nine more different species, thus setting up a quest journey. yes, it requires deft skilful writing, but the travails of the MM on his journey are not much different from those of anybody dating in a strange new world. And which of us have not been there at some stage?

The characters may be anthro, but the themes are universal.

What sirhugs said. There are many flavors of anthros, but if you're writing in a modern setting, oftentimes the anthros can hew very closely to human characters in terms of how you write them, their personality, interactions, etc. It's just that they have some extra fun flavoring that you can do with their their personality taking on some of more with their species, plus, obviously, the anatomy.

If it's not something you're interested in, I wouldn't force the issue, but if your sole reason for not doing it is a perceived lack of creativity, all you really need is a basic understanding of your species' anatomies and what type of anthro or animal humanoid you want to use. There's no rigid, narrow definition for anthro, the only qualifications are that they are basically an animal in human form, and not a human with some animal parts, like a human with cat ears, paws, tail, but everything else is human; those are animal humanoids. Anthros are more similar to something like a werewolf or minotaur, in that the body is animal, it just happens to be bipedal (usually) or morphologically sharing human traits (upright bipedalism, speech, etc.). I have a whole "Intro to Anthros" list in my signature for stories where it's pretty easy to ease into my little corner of Lit.

Also, you should give yourself more credit, because you clearly are creative enough to write stories that people like. After all, you wrote a story for NND that got hundreds of votes, nearly a 4.7, 20+ unique comments from other people, 24 favorites, and over 10k views. People don't engage on that level with stories that aren't creative. The more you tell yourself you can't, the more you stymie your own progress because you don't strive for more and you get stuck in place because you don't push yourself and grow as a writer since you're unwilling to push your boundaries because you give up before you even try.

Think less about what you can't do, and more about what you could do. Push yourself, try new things, experiment, but don't be so negative toward yourself, because that's just going to make progressing as a writer harder, and we already have enough external obstacles in our craft without kneecapping ourselves with negativity about not being good enough. So if you ever feel like you wanna give anthros or non-human or something brand new a shot, I say go for it if it strikes your fancy! Non-human erotica has so many fun things to play with and unique and interesting creations and creations, and the best part is you can make them however you want, you're beholden to no blueprints beyond what you want to do and how you want to make them!

And we all start somewhere. Hell, I wasn't that good of a writer for many years, but I did it anyway, didn't take into consideration that I wasn't good enough to try something, I had an idea, I wanted to write it, so I did. Write for the love of the story, and to hone your skills and improve your craft. In time, you'll have learned a lot and really blossomed into something absolutely amazing — but only if you keep working toward it and don't let self-imposed roadblocks prevent your progress
