New Milestones Thread

It's a dubious honor but I guess it does count as a milestone since it was more or less inevitable. I have at least one unabomber on my tail, who made himself known the moment I dropped my new story:
Ah yes, an honor I have received many times lmao. I once wrote a part 6 of a series, that less than 5 minutes after it was published, received a 1. I couldn't even see my work on the new submissions page yet and I already had a 1 -- the only rating LOL. Needless to say, I was impressed by their tenacity and drive to read my work specifically.

The story has only been out a couple hours, it's too early to tell how it's going to shake out.
Oh, definitely. Now that the early bombing averaged out, it's doing much, much better:

If I'm thinking along the lines of the title the son is an incel for some reason and mom fixes that. The 'real men' crowd is not going to like that because the son is a simp and all the women evil for not putting out for him.

I can bet some who are thinking its what I just said didn't read to see if its true or how you handled it, just hit the one.
Ha, that is a line of thinking that I didn't anticipate. But I can totally see happen if someone hasn't actually read the story.

In reality, the whole conceit is more about the gullible, panicky mother who falls for the scaremongering of one of her friends, misreads what is actually happening with her son, and decides to intervene and remove the -cel part of a potential incel. The young guy is a high school senior who, whilst technically a virgin, has a half-girlfriend he's been fooling around with, and the main reason he isn't too interested in going further is that he has a thing for older women.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the idea for this premise popped into my head when I heard about the Adolescence series on Netflix, and how it paints a skewed picture of not just inceldom but also other societal issues in UK and beyond.

So, yeah, perhaps it is an off-shoot of the LW-adjacent trollery. I will do the prudent thing and not feed it with any more attention.

Over the weekend, I had one reader ( ) like all but one of my stories. I had never had that before, and rather than being happy, I had some who liked my stories so much, and I could only think why didn't he/she/they/them like the one, what's wrong with the one they didn't like? What the hell is wrong with me? I didn't use to be so, hum, what is it, greedy, vain, pompous?

The ones that perplex me are those that like the same story two or three times, and not necessarily in a row. WTF??? :)

This past weekend, I submitted the final chapter of Perion.

I'm sure many others here have encountered this kind of bittersweet milestone. For the past three months, I've devoted so much time to writing and editing...and now, it's over.

Those self-imposed deadlines could feel like a curse...but here I am, free from their shackles...and it just feels strange.

In any case, I'm truly grateful for this community. Above all, it has spurred me onward.

I have to confess, I am guilty of that. 😅 Sometimes when I really enjoy a series that I just found, I tend to favorite the first one, and then I'm so engrossed in reading the rest of the series, that I'll favorite some of them and not all, simply because I forget. And then I go back and favorite the ones I missed, if I remember. ADHD sucks.

This weekend, I submitted my first full work (not a series) that was not a short story. At 15K+ words, "Rebel Girl" is by far the longest submission I've ever posted and something I'm really proud of. It is a bittersweet coming-of-age romance between two high school girls. I was very worried at the reception because of the nature of the work (non-erotic) and the ending, which made it really hard to decide which genre to place it in. Now that it's been released, I feel a lot less stressed.

This is a milestone for me because in future, once my current two series have finished, I plan on switching from writing series to only writing completed works.

I also would really like to thank @ElectricBlue, @Cagivagurl, and @THBGato, who convinced me to place my submission in the Lesbian Sex category. They were absolutely right. I was initially going to place it in Romance so I am really glad to have listened to them.

I recently also posted the final chapter of my Alistaire series of series, but I didn't think of it as a milestone. Thanks for pointing out that it really is a big deal, at least for ourselves.

I too, feel a little freed from shackles. And that freedom has had me pop out my first one-shot story in almost a year, as well as having powerful inspiration for a new series pop into my head. I hope it lasts!

Congratualtions

My first rejected submission.

The reason given was under-age content, which I think is unfair as I was careful that nothing happened until after the character's 18th birthday, but c'est la vie. I have rewritten the piece to avoid any uncertainty.

Underage can be touchy.
I alluded to a character being used for child porn and got rejected. No explicit mention, just that his foster dad may have taken illicit pictures of him. Changed that to his foster dad was arrested for child porn but the character was expressly not a victim. His step father just dressed him up as a girl and took pictures of that. It passed.

I know... I've posted milestones in the thread before.

Some of my stories have managed to hit some more personal milestones this past week:

My first story, and the first part of my multi-part story, The Long Weekend 01 - Thursday, posted to NaN, just eked out it's 5000th view.

My most recent, stand-alone, story, A Week of Sunrises, posted to I/T, just topped 50000 views.

The same info, in a bit of a more graphic form:

More grist for the 'What category should I publish to?' debate, too, although I'm pretty sure we all already knew that part. 😇

I just got my 320th vote on AWoS today, too.

It's been since January that I looked at stats. Today, I've reached over one million views! Bragging rights?
Total stories: 71, with an average of 4.51.

Several scores exceed 4.7, with the lowest at 3.16. My best liked score is 4.81.

I have one pending for July — the Mike Hammer Event. From here on out, there may be few to follow.

This is the first time I've got this counter to rise so high:

It normally wouldn't, but there's:
  • a Geek Pride entry in there that will only go live on 5/25
  • a STORY EDIT I've submitted a few days ago, and they always take a long time to go through
  • a "regular" story; the next chapter in one my series that I've sent out just now
So, it's obviously just a fluke, but it sure makes me feel that I'm exceedingly productive :)
