Sitting here paying bills and came across one for the Safe Deposit Box.

Secret agent intrigue aside, is this antiquated, or do others keep them also to store important papers offsite to protect against fire, flood and theft?

Naw I live on the edge

oh, you wanted a grown up response........

oops, nevermind.....

I still love your av btw.....

Whoa! who said anything about earthquakes? Maybe I should MOVE into my safe deposit box!

I have a built-in wall safe (hidden) that serves the same function. It is fireproof.

For some reason, your joke reminds me of another. Can't recall if it was George Carlin who first said it but: If black boxes survive air crashes -- why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

:D

We have a wall safe too, for valuables. Personally, they can take it if they want.

The only thing we keep in the SDB is the stuff for the insurance (if the house go boom, wall safe won't help).

I have a fireproof lock box in the house... but I have been thinking about a safe deposit box (Its not theft proof, after all)...

I've always read that its best not to keep certain things in your house - like the dead to your house, for example... also, I know its a good idea to keep important computer data duplicated and stored somewhere other then the house (also not theft or damage proof)...

Pardon me?

Am I mistaken or isn't a "lock box" a term used by white slavers as a place they take their victims to pacify them and re-educate them in their new role?

What's Dill up to?

Copies are a good idea because banks are not immune. They are neither theft proof nor fire safe either! :)

But I see your points.

Do I come across as that evil?

Avocations

Well , Dill, we all have our little "hobbies":p

Mensa - what are you trying to say? Do you have a hobby horse? Are you hung like a horse? :p

That's what I'm missing in my life...a man that's hung like a hobby horse.

Or maybe just a well-hung hobby horse.

I stick all my valuables in my mattress. Sleeping on all that gold bouillon is giving me scoliosis.

I would have guessed you placed all your valuables "on" the mattress!:p

Most of you won't be surprised. Yes, I have a safe deposit box at my bank. It contains my will, trust papers, power of attorney, house stuff, and I don't remember what else. The executor of my will also has a key to this box.

It is $40 per year I think. Money well worth it for peace of mind.

Well, no I dont have one....does this mean I am not a grownup?
Oh please let it be so... :D

One of the biggest uses I make of ours is to store all our picture negatives.
In the event of a fire your pictures are one thing that is not possible to replace.
family heirlooms are gone forever too, but at least you can get your years of pictures back.

I keep most of my important papers in a lock box. My sister and mother also have a copy of my will, in case something happens to the originals.

There is the Poor Man's Safe Deposit Box....

If you have room, the freezer makes a very excellent place that will survive a fire to keep papers (in a ziplock bag). Probably would do ok in a flood also. Not so sure how it would fare in an earthquake - they're not an issue in central Kansas :)
