I want to get a new one within the next couple months.

What should I be looking for? I'm pretty basic. Lit, email, Lit, email.

In other words, I want to be able to have more than two screens up without my pc freezing. Mine now is 2.5 yrs. old.

So...give me pros and cons. Consider me computer illiterate.

A computer the age of yours should be able to handle two screens at once... next time instead of defragging yourself... defrag the computer.... ;)

I do defrag. I meant that figuratively. I just want something that moves a little faster.:) My internet connection will always be lousy, I just didn't know what to look for when shopping to get the best possible speed.

Kiwi Wolf is sitting here next to me and he suggests pm Draco and ask him. :D

Or find a friend who knows their stuff and take them shopping with you...

Basically you need more RAM and faster processer. :)

Computer RAM that is... ;) :p

KW says hi!! :)

How much are you willing to spend? And anything else it will be used for besides the net and e-mail?
*rubs his hands together evilly* hehe...I'll be back and forth for the next hour or so tho.

I don't want to go over $2,000.

I will want to play music on it. I'm not into games. Well...not those kinds of games.:D

Hehehe.

Not at true kiss without it.:p

Ok, I'll go ask my husband first.... ;)

KW says to go to ebay if you wanna spend that kind of money. You can get a custom made system from ebay for about $600. :)

As soon as I know what features I want/need...I might just do that.

He deserves another kiss.:D

Check out Dell.com Last time I was there, they had a build your own computer option there. Check it out.

I'll build you one in like an hour or so when I have more time.

I poste d a thread about some nw computer Walmart is offering a couple of months ago: http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=114830 There is a slightly more expensive version of the "AOL computer" that has Win XP as an operating system that will do what you need and is in your price range.

Basically, any new computer is going to perform better than one that is 2.5 years old and most are set up to suit internet surfers. If your choice is over $1400 or so, it's probably more computer than you need.

My daughter has had good luck with her newest computer, a Compaq.

Hi JL!

I wish I lived near you, I'd come have a look at your computer! A 2 1/2 year old pc should be just fine, maybe you need a little more Ram and a clean hard drive :)

But if you do want to shop for a new one, I agree with looking at Dell. You should be able to get what you want for around $1000. Less if you don't get a new monitor. If you want shopping help, let me know, I'm a mean little bargain hunter.

Thanks, WH.:)

The one I have now is a Compaq.

Soblue...I'll keep you in mind on my next shopping trip.:D

I do want a new flat panel monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse.

Hi juicy

Now adays computers are cheap for 600 to 800 you can get a great coputer that plays music, dvds, and do a lot more.

The wal-mart by me had a hp for 600 something they are good sony my brother says they are good and compaq is good to.

One thing you want is a fast prossesor.

My computer is much older then yours and mine will play music.

Mine is a dell p100 it is slower then mollasses in the winter time.

:rose:

Ok, a flat panel LCD monitor? Those are very cool, but expensive, so you will have to spend more than 1000 on the whole set up.

Good luck shopping and Merry Christmas :)

Dell...get a Dell
(now I have that annoying as hell Steve guy in my head)

I am pretty happy with mine... I got the Dimension 4550 less than two months ago...and upgraded the CD Rom with a DVD/CD-R.... and I paid less than 1400 for it.

The best value I have gotten

Was going to one of the smaller computer builders with a good rep and ordering the parts I specifically wanted for my needs.
You CANNOT have too much ram. Dont skimp on that or your motherboard or processor. If you are happy with your current monitor, printer, ect... you can save some money there by keeping what you have.
Also, you might consider going with cable or DSL. If you do you will never willingly go back to dial-up.
