Hello, I'm a new author, but I am quite familiar with the site. Anyone willing to give advice to a newb?

keep your arms and legs inside the cabin while the vehicle is moving, never refuse a drink, don't feed the trolls.

Welcome!:D

Beware of the Loving Wives category. If you dare it, make sure you have a thick skin to endure the comments those stories draw.

Don't get too discouraged if your scores, comments, vote totals, etc. are low at first. It takes a while to build a readership. Keep in mind that different categories have different size readerships. You can't compare numbers on an incest story to novels and novellas.

Before considering whether a story fits in a category, research the category portal and the toplist for the category to see what's flying, and what's dying. Pay attention to the comments on similar stories.

Just a couple things off the top of my head.

If you submit a story, expect it to take at least three, probably more, days to post, don't fiddle with the buttons on your submissions page while the story is pending or it might be sent back to the back of the line, and don't ask how many day it takes for a story to post until yours has been pending for at least a week.

If you need to contact the website administrators (there seem to be only two--Laurel is the editor and Manu is the technical guy), send them a PM (private message--top right corner of this screen), don't e-mail them. They apparently don't open e-mails.

If you want to bitch about the categories and have suggestions on how they could change for the better, PM Laurel directly rather than post your suggestions to the forum. The administrators rarely read the forum and the forum users can't do a damn thing about change suggestions (and chances are extremely good that you won't come up with anything that isn't suggested--ineffectually--by someone weekly here).

. . . And, welcome to the forum.

Good luck!

And if I have any advice from when I was a newbie, this is it.

If you see a strange post, maybe it's racist or sexist or cruel or maybe you just don't understand it... Don't comment right away.

Hold that post at arms length, and decide if it is a joke, a troll response, or a rant. Then respond to it (or don't respond) appropriately.

That way you can avoid more trolls, make more friends, and avoid foot-in-mouth disease.

Welcome, Your Majesty

Have fun here - but not too much. If you're an author, you should try and make at least some time for writing.

:)

It will take 100 posts to get an avatar.

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Above all, enjoy yourself. This means develop a thick skin so you are not bothered by negative comments on stories or peoms you write and submit. If you enter a theme contest in the future, and there are six a year as of now, don't pay any attention to scouries, because he will try to lead you astray. There are official threads that will give you the true info.

One more thing: It is customary for all new members here to post nude photos of themselves, front and rear views. If you don't want to do this, you can send them directly to me. :)

Welcome to the madhouse. As you can see the inmates only think they run the place.

Oh, and you lose your virgin status somewhere between 13 and 16 posts and no, it doesn't hurt. In fact, most people don't even notice it.

have fun.

Welcome aboard.

To answer a frequently asked question:

When you submit a story you will see it says it has anywhere from 16-64 views. These are not editors looking at your story it is a glitch don't worry about it.

and NEVER click "pending" on your story unl;ess you need to change it. That will put you back in the back of the line and cost you days on getting posted.

Also, and a big warning here, there is a guy named scouries who claims he runs the AIR contest on literotica. That is a FAKE contest! Its a long story, but don;t listen to anything he posts.

Again, welcome!

Welcome...

Post some stories, send us their links. Get some posts on the sentence game and other threads. Have a great time, because this is essentially a fun place.

Oh and put scouries on ignore. Avoid his AIR contests because "air" is all they have.

Much of the above is good advice. Write your stories, give them a polish, and post them. Remember that it'll take about three days for it to show up on the site. Do not be afraid to share your work. There are many genuine, professional-quality gems on this site, and many not-so-great efforts, and there is room for all. Your writing will only improve with practice, so have fun practicing!

Enjoy the sense that your work is being read by people you don't even know. :)

Don't be ashamed of your kinks. Don't worry about whether your writing is too steamy or not steamy enough. Write to make yourself happy, because your enthusiasm will show.

Be willing to communicate with your readers, but ask yourself if you're responding defensively to anything--and if you are, don't respond. Also, remember that this is the internet, where (Audience) + (Anonymity) = (Total Fuckwad) quite often. You will get positive feedback. You will also get negative stuff from people who can't be bothered to be constructive or tactful; ignore them.

As far as the message board goes: the Ignore function is your friend. If you find someone genuinely obnoxious, hateful, batshit-insane, etc., click on the person's name in the box on the left of your screen, and use the menu that drops down to ignore them. This board is MUCH more fun when you don't engage with people who annoy you.

Welcome to the club!

Thanks, honestly I plan on sticking to a few categories that I'm most comfortable, if I get any requests by future readers I hope I can accommodate their expectations. I'd like to think that I can handle the negative comments I'm likely to get, but of course I am an optimist, your advice is much appreciated <3

Thanks, I'm glad you told me that, I wasn't quite sure how that worke, I've written a few fanfics for a more tame site than this one and my stories were judged by the admins in a sort of panel of judges,
A friend of mine said I would be a good erotic author seeing as I am such a fan of the site *blush*

Thanks, I hope that I am capable of dealing with those kinds of posts, but if I ever have a problem post I will take it up with my confidant and editor who is a close friend, much appreciated <3

Why thank you ;) I hope I can put up a few short stories that I have been wanting to write soon, much love <3

As I have replied to other posts, I sure hope I can deal with the negatives, I highly doubt I'll be entering any of the contests until I get a steady fan base. And as for those pics I highly doubt my boyfriend would be amused by them seeing as he is one of the select group that sees me in the nude, but I am flattered and honored that you would want to see me<3 thanks for the advice and confidence boost you are quite the lovely pervert

I was wondering how I would shake that, seeing as the first time I lost my virginity was fairly painless I am relieved to hear this will be the same, thanks <3

You certainly sound like the kind of person who will enjoy the site and make a positive contribution to it, once you have posted the pictures I mentioned earlier.

As somebody else said, ignore scouries. He is a fraud and a liar and will try to lead you astray, especially in the theme contests, which are fun to enter.

There is no panel of judges here, but new stories are checked over by the admin to watch for forbidden themes. The main one of these is sexual involvement by underage characters. You can write about Miley Cyrus now, but you can't write about Hannah Montana unless you tell everybody she has passed her eighteenth birthday.

The other major taboo is bestiality. You cannot write about sex between humans and animals, unless the latter are mythical, such as unicorns and werewolves, etc.

ETA: I have put that last prohibition in verse form:

byBoxlicker101©

We can't write of sex between humans and dogs,
Or humans with wombats, giraffes or with frogs.

But we can write plenty of cats fucking cats,
Or couplings of horses or kangaroo rats.

I never have done it for nobody cares
To read of the mating of Kodiak bears.

But if someone wanted to write about beasties
That went about breeding with different species.

Then Laurel and Manu would probably say
"You can write it but no one will read anyway."

Much thanks, I hope to not get too many oddballs on my case, but I do they will feel my wrath, being a temperamental ginger has its advantages <3
