When entering the AH, check your seriousness at the door...

PMs -- personal messages make up for all sorts of lost time here. Probably as many of those as there are of threads and posts.
switching categories -- if votes are the primary thing then, as explained, stay in one category. But you are also welcome to experiment and move around as you or the story feels is good. In fact there's an entire contest here devoted to such schizo writing behavior: the Survivor Contest.
Hey, you got enough yet?

It really is a very good place for an authour to hang.
The only advice I can give you is write, submit it and suffer through the feedback. Ignore the trolls. Or find them amusing, they are pathetic little creatures.
Do that, ask for help when you need it, and you'll do fine.
If you need a shoulder, advice, a good laugh, or a quick kick up the backside to get moving, you'll always find them here.
And don't mind Sam. She is, in the rather clever phrase I invented this morning goes, 'a sweet confection, wrapped in razor wire'. Lot's of good stuff there, but you're going to collect a few cuts getting to it.![]()

Ms Katrina said:Hello,
I'm a fairly new member here at Literotica, although I have been reading the many varied stories here for quite some time.
I have written quite a lot of stories in the past and most are posted to another site (a BDSM site) and I decided to write some new ones and post them here. The readership seems a lot larger, for one thing.
I was wondering, do any of you have any good hints or tips for a fledgling author at this site?
Please, bear in mind, I don't mean what's contained in the FAQs (I've read them, extensively) and I don't mean about the actual technicalities of writing (I think I write a fair story), I mean the kind of stuff you don't find out until you've "been around the block" a bit. Not that I'm not willing to pay my dues and learn the hard way, of course. I merely thought I'd ask and attempt to avoid any possible pitfalls, or faux pas.
I write hardcore BDSM, for the most part, from the Dominant female perspective.
Thank you, in advance,
Katrina

If she thinks that, she's gonna lose the place when she sees Cant and Snoop.

Seems like you're headed on the right track. However, there would be two kinds of success you could have here. The first being the overall score of a story and the second of writing as you see fit and letting the chips fall where they may.
In the beauty pageant of scores, the winners are not necssarily the best written, they just have the right formula (for lack of a better word) to rate well with the general lit readership. To get an idea of what people like, go to the top lists for a section and read a few selections, for the BDSM category:
BDSM Top List
However, when you write something strictly to your own standards, you'll find that most at the AH are more satisfied with receiving positive (even if it's constructive criticism) feedback from fellow authors. Don't get me wrong, we like good scores, but nothing beats a nice e-mail or PC on one of your stories from a fellow author whose work you appreciate.

Sometimes there are little writing challenges that come up and are quite fun. Join in on them and when you do get a story up, make sure you post it in your sigline so everyone knows about it.
ps...there are no refreshments.
