New Author Advice Needed...

Hi All

I'm a new author, hopefully just about to publish my first novella and finish writing my second. This may sound a tad pathetic, but I'm a little nervous about many things - feedback, talent, rejection...etc etc, all the normal things ;)

If anyone out there is willing to offer a newbie a bit of advice, then I'd be really grateful. I mainly write in the D/s BDSM genre and have only just told my husband that I write adult material. He was fantastically supportive!

I know this sounds vague, but I'm just needing to put some of my fears to rest with some sound advice from more experienced writers. What are the main pit falls you've faced? How do you go about finding a good publisher? How do you overcome writers block? Are there any disciplines that would be a good idea to follow? I'm just writing as and when the need takes me at the moment - which is pretty much any free time I have available.

Thanks!

Much love

Probably on your first posting, some snot will send you some really nasty comments. Consider it a compliment. The asshole is threatened by your potential and is trying to scare you away. Either he/she can't write or is so insecure in his writing that you are a threat. Just delete it and go on with your writing. Eventually, and it can take a while, others here will begin to either give you some helpful advice or even to applaud your efforts. Just stay away from the Loving Wives category. :D

Try a chapter or two in the Novella's catagory. Take head of the 'bear' above and learn to accept suffering. I'd offer to read but I'm not a BDSM fan and wouldn't really know my arse from my padlocked elbow.

PS: That should of been HEED of the 'bear' above, but I guess he wouldn't mind the other.

Thanks Both :D

All comments taken to heart - I'll remember this when I submit my work ;)

Ignore him, hon!

What I'd suggest is that you write a couple of really bad Loving Wives stories (preferably where the wife screws over the wimpy husband with a well hung black guy) and you will no longer consider any other comments, rejections or criticism to be a problem! :D

Consider it as "aversion therapy!"

(just kidding, you know... ;) )

Sue, you should be ashamed. :D:D

Best advice I ever got was to grow some thick skin. Your story could be the greatest thing since the discovery of chocolate, but there will always be someone who will find something truly vicious to say. Laugh at the nimrod. I always left all those comments up for entertainment value (when I used to have a lot of stories on the site) and I responded to them, if the posters were brave enough to leave a contact.
