Well, clips of this have been on the news the past two days.

I was curious and wanted to see more. And am glad I did.

This woman can sing.

And what gets me is that the folks there thought that since she wasn't glamorous, she wasn't talented.

They were WRONG!!!

If you haven't seen the seen it...watch now.

I am an instant fan.:rose:

oh yeah...only 15.6 million views in the last couple of days.

I guess I am not the only fan.:)

The look on Simon's face when she belted out the first stanza was priceless. What a voice. I downloaded the lyrics to check and you can understand every word she's singing. If she has had no professional voice training or if she has, the fact remains she is truly gifted. I think I've watched that clip a dozen times. :D

Because everyone who has loads of talent also has extreme hawtness. And if you don't have the looks, you obviously can't possibly have any talent at all.

Her voice isn't just smooth and rich, and the fact that she's got a great ear isn't *that* big a deal. She knows how to use her voice. I can't get choked up by a lot of today's singers no matter how smooth and rich their voices are, no matter how good their ear is, because despite having the mechanics down pat they haven't the least idea of how to *use* those voices of theirs effectively.

This woman does. :rose:

The sad truth is that the music business is not about music or talent: For women (and men for that matter) it's all T&A. Edith Piaf, Aretha Franklin, and Patsy Cline would have one helluva time getting a contract much less air time........Didn't Simon Cowell ridicule Jennifer Hudson (Grammy and Oscar Winner) for being too fat?
Take away Shania Twain's belly button and what's left?
Whatever's left I'd fuck but only if she didn't sing only hollered my name.......

True enough, but this is not so new as we think. Back in the days of segregation records featuring black singers were often sold in the south with images of white people on the covers as if they were the singers. And Hollywood musicals often had different singers backing their stars--as in My Fair Lady.

Nevertheless, you're right that prior to the popularity of singers on tv and especially videos for selling music, it really didn't matter what a pop/record/radio singer looked like. MTV did usher in all those lip-syncing scandals of credit going to the pretty star of the video rather than the real (and not so pretty) singer behind the song or part of the song.

Yeah. Substituting Audrey Hepburn for Julie Andrews proved to be a "brilliant" move.

My oldest was a fan of Janet (I never uttered a word that wasn't first recorded in a studio) Jackson and Milli Vanilli (she actually went to see both of these in concert - Jackson 'sang' two songs both times and then was too stressed to continue...Milli Vanilli, well, the less said, the bettah...she began to have a deeper appreciation for myself and the other folks I jammed with who would go for hours and hours......without a stress headache!

I had not seen your thread or the other one either when I saw a brief clip on CNN and looked for the youtube piece.

Guess it says something about the forum and the peeps here, ya think?

:)

Amicus...
