There seems to be some question and concern regarding netiquette.

Opinions are always welcome, but remember....

lord!!! if I had a dime for every mistake I made posting I would be rich. I'm still learning and with my somewhat crazy sense of humor I find myself probably taken back by rudeness and people with lack of kindness at times. I havn't found this very often In my post that people will be rude but have seen it in other people's post more.
I think I'm learning the right way to netiquette...but when I'm wrong I do appreciate someone correcting me ...please with kindness and direction.
Miss Taken ....Thank you for this thread and your concern about my friend...You are a beautiful lady and the kindness you show is why I love the people here at lite.....

please tell me what the difference in the boards are and what to avoid...some are obvious and some not.

Peace and Love my Friend

Be who you are and everyone makes a mistake once in a while. Since we are talking on a computer you can't read expressions or if the person is mad or insulted. If someone is rude to me I usually ignore them or tell them in a pm or come back at them with a smile. I find too much stuff that belong in a pm are on the boards. Fighting and all and I find that boring. So when something is boring I move on.

Well, as lit has evolved and grown, here is MY perception of some of the characteristics of some of the forums:

The Playground: It evolved from what used to be the personals forum. Some folks found the General Board a bit difficult to post at, but didn't necessarily want to post personal ads. A lot of concerns were expressed and the Playground came into being. It is a great place for playing! Flirting, fun and silliness is the rule of the day....throw in a few serious threads and a mish mash of personalities and annything goes!

The General Board': It's intent is to have a place to post what doesn't belong anywhere else. IT is primarily characterized by discussion, some fluffiness and a lot of opinions. We aren't afraid to voice our opinions over there and it can put people off.

The BDSM forum: It's intent to discuss BDSM. It tends to be a bit more serious than the other discussion forums and it is my belief, that because there is such a small core group of posters, feelings get hurt and drama seems bigger than it really is. We have had some hellacious flame wars over there.

Let's see? Are there any other forums that might have been cause for discussion or debate amongst the folks here? Let me know....

Remember, this is my perspective.

I do believe one has to be fairly thick skinned to post on a bulletin board for any length of time.

I also highly recommend two things:

If you find that you rae put off or hurt by a post, ask for clarification before posting or lettingit bother you. Sometimes, it is difficult to read the intent of a poster without being able to look in thier eyes or hear their laugh as they make what they think is a funny remark.

If you continue to feel hurt or angered by posters, leave the forum or take a lit break. This is just a bulletin board. We can click on or click off. Use that option freely and don't get too enmeshed in the goings on.

Just my opinion and my own....others may disagree.

:) And are welcome to do so!

Well, this is essentially a sex site!

:D

Posting what you want and where you want is great if you are tough enough and aloof enough to take whatever anyone else posts your way.

You also post with respect and obviously think about how your words might sound to someone before clicking the submit button.

Good practice!

Studdog and Miss Taken... Respect it the key word. You both have mine...

Studdog this is a city girl that loves the country...

my 2 cents if i may

I love the Playground......and I remember being all moany
and groany about it when the Personals forum was split
earlier this year, to distinguish personal ads from
"conversational threads"......but want to know something?

I am actually glad that the Playground has evolved the
way it has.......its the "happenin" place where people
can go meet people from other parts of the US and from
different countries throughout the world......to have a
cup of coffee at a Cafe....to have a drink at the bar....
to discuss many different topics.....the possibilities are
endless!

My "home base" is the Playground now but I have bounced
over to the GB from time to time, peeked at pix on the
Picture Forum....and participated on the Story and Poetry
forums (when I do write!).........

Now........my thing for posts: if something is boring or
not worth reading, or super offensive, I move on. If there
is a "troll" or a Lit member who is driving most people batty
(such as what happened a while back.....), the best thing
to do, is ignore them....because as the old saying goes: "the
fuel that feeds the fire." Not a good thing at times.

But I do agree.....respect is important online as it is in person.
We may not see the person face to face, but whom we are
speaking to online *is a person*.

That's all my 2 cents for now...... :)

OPPS....not the place to try and sweet talk beautiful ladies...
but I'm smiling from ear to ear.

MissT,

I think that as long as anyone follows the rules (as defined by Laurel and Manu) then they can post as they like. That is more of a technical answer than a realistic one.

Each of the forums here does indeed have a unique flavor, and they are different for a reason. When I first came to the Lit, I posted here at the playground. What I quickly found out, was that I needed more serious discussion and witty banter than I found on the playground, which seemed to me to be threads overly dominated by flirting and sympathy. There is nothing wrong with either of those things, and I am not judging anyone who posts here. But I knew that it wasn't for me, so I left and explored other areas of Lit where I found what I was looking for.

I think that posting at the different forums here is like going to a Library versus a bar. There are different behaviors that are more appropriate in each place.

I think part of the problem is when someone goes to one of the other forums and does not take into account the style of that forum. Then, when criticized for their posts, people take offense and their feelings are hurt. Freedom of speech means freedom for everyone. While anyone can post what they want, so too can people reply to and comment about those posts.

I think that in addition to basic politeness, posters here at Lit could also use thicker skins and should take responsiblity for the responses that their posts may bring.
