Hi everyone. I'm a geek, mostly through marriage to linuxgeek. I guess that makes me a geek-in-law. If you guys ever wander over to GB, there's a Geek Sanctuary. Feel free to drop in and be as geeky as you want.

Cthulu saves. He is the way.

Heh! Got any 1001's? Actually my favorite binary number would have to be 10001001.

Eeep! How dare you touch me there! Nothing gives you that right! :p

I don't understand binary at all. In fact, computers in general aren't my forte. They are known to explode in my presence.

I haven't had one explode, but I have had them catch fire once (or perhaps twice), and smoke on numerous occasions. However in one of my prevous jobs we had to do monitor testing and I've had a couple of them actuially explode on me. The glass went everywhere, it stunk like rotton ass, and I had to get stitches. Other times they blew up, but to lesser extents, and more monitors than I care to count start smoking as soon as I put power to it.

Quick, Windows 2000 or XP? :)

Neither. *gag*

The correct answer is: Slackware or any flavour of Unix.

There is nothing inherintly wrong with Windows XP, it's all how you use it/what you do with it....

...and after using it you can join us on the dark side of geekdom. Join us or die *lights up his red lightsaber*

And I suppose for just surfing the web, and checking e-mail Windows 95a would work well too. But you don't see anybody using that now do you?? *L*

I was orignally thinking of putting Windows 3.11 in that comparison, but 3.11 still kicks ass. :)

YAY!! You passed the test!! *LOL*

The dissing of microsoft gets kinda irritating after awile. I'v heard it for so many years it horribly old. Windows XP is something they finally did halfway right and no one ever wants to give them credit when credit is due. *shrugs* ah well, I'm not pro microsoft myself but I get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over again.

I personally like Win2k. They got that right. I just much prefer Linux to MS products. I haven't liked XP since it's launch (which I actuially went to the offical MS release party for). Granted XP is the most graphically stunning OS I've ever seen bar none. I just don't find it very functionally friendly.

I can agree with you for the most part. I'v never really used Win2k extensivly, but from the times I'v used it I'v never really had a problem. We can at least all agree that WinXP is far better then Winblows 98.

W2k is great for games. XP is great for my kids' machines and the guest computer. Otherwise, I have nothing decent to say about an OS I'm required to rack down every 3-5 days. I prefer to see a couple of zeros after the number when reboot is a requirement.

Our unix server has been up and stable for over 2 years. It was racked for 2 days for a hardware overhaul, not because there was an OS issue. In 6 years, we've never had an OS issue. All hail open source!

Zergy... loved your pics on GLBT. Yummy!

(while everyone else is debating various OS's, takes the opportunity to shamelessly flirt with college_geek)

So, um, how's it goin', sexy? (waggles eyebrows) ;)

That is true.

I am not a total MS basher. They do have their stongpoints. You can always find drivers for hardware, and at times they can be easily configured. I just personally feel their weak points (memory hogs, perpriority (sp?), security /virii, TCO, etc) outweigh their strong points enough to make me not want to use them as my primary os.

However this debate has been going on for years, and I firmly believe there is no right or wrong answer or opinon. This whole conversation is a thread all it's own.

Now then. How many of you have played FF X-2? Good game but it takes forever to develop a storyline and make it interesting.

Ooo, Oooo *raises hand*
