Nerd Hook Up Thread

Mother of god, I always felt sorry for girl players on vent in WoW. You just know the majority of men are not focusing on the raid!

Yea, but that's why I liked it, lol. Not going to lie, I loved getting all that attention. Though it wasn't as crazy as some people make it out to be it was still enough to be fun.

I guess it depends what guild and what server. There were people in my first proper raiding guild who propped up the hot female voice girl (I didn't know her name).

All I knew is she was too lazy to farm her own mats :D

Man, I am not sure I am nerdy enough for this thread or not. Mainly because I have never played WoW or anything. I do read like a fiend, enjoy science fiction, and history. I also interact awkward socially at times in real life. Ha.

Oh see, I'm not like that. I mean I was happy to get help on quests and groups for dungeons, but I didn't out right use anyone. I was crazy about my shadow priest and shammy. I'd spend hours working out how to up their DPS and help the entire raid.

Sure I might have distracted a couple guys with my "buffs" and "totems" ;) but that was the worst of it, lol.

I would relish the opportunity to play with you.

I'll bet you would ;)

You don't have to be a gamer to be nerdy :) reading works too. I just finished Clash of King and moving onto Storm of Swords. I cover my fantasy and paranormal fiction than anything, but reading definitely qualifies.

Pfft. as a Paladin all I've got to do is lay on hands and the girls just melt :)

Hehe, I raid a couple times with my friend's healer pally. OMG I totally suck as a healer. I can barely even keep myself alive solo question when I play healer classes. I swear my priest died so many times leveling it was insane cause I'd always forget I could heal myself ><

Yeah, but shadow priests are the coolest class ever. One day they'll give my holy paladin a 'holy' form.

I levelled and raided on a shadow priest and enhance shammy both fun but I prefer healing.

I might actually jump on later although I don't have much time for raiding these days.

Good to know. I have only read Game of Thrones in that series, sadly. I just recenly finished House of Leaves for a Halloween read. It was good but not what I was hoping for after all of thethe hype built around it.

Yea, I miss my enhance shammy (1st charrie) and my shadow priest. Alas it has been almost 2 yrs since I played. Plus my PC room is in remodel mode so my PC is broken down at the moment.

I bought the first 4 books after watching the 2 seasons HBO has done. Very thankful it is not getting the True Blood treatment. I've been passing the books onto my Mom, before this we went through the Hunger Games series.

I stopped for a while because of that. I prefer other games now. Did I mention that assassins creed is the sex? It is.

I haven't really gotten into George R.R. Martin. Just finished reading the Nightside series by Simon R. Green. Great supernatural modern series. Love the Dresden Files too. And you can come over to play any time you like.

I have the entire series that is out. I just haven't gotten around to reading them. I worked at a used book store for the last 5 years so I built up an insane collection because the books were incredibly cheap. I have close to 1200 now, I believe.

Hunger Games was alright to me. I didn love it as much as most seemed but for whateer reason I have a hard ime really getting into ya novels. Two authors I really loe, Joe Lansdale and Neil Gaiman, have written ya stuff and I coulsnt even get into it.

Currently, I am reading Suttree by Cormac, and Harlan Ellison's Watching.

Well he's the first male author I've read anything by in the last ten or more years. I admit that I usually avoid male authors cause their female characters generally tend to be helpless, useless, and mostly plot devices. I prefer my stories the other way around, lol. But seriously, I like strong female characters and usually find that women write them that way. I really like Martin's females though and after Twilight it is clear a female author can write a shitty female character as bad as any male author.

Oh yea? Got a joystick I can use? :p

I'd suggest brandon Sanderson for good female characters. Joe Abercrombie has his momments too.

I'll not jump in on the joystick chat. Fight sticks are where it's at though

Hear hear! Here's a quote from him on the subject:

How do you write such compelling female characters?

George said:
Well, I hold the rather radical view that women are, in fact, people.

I don't read much fantasy nowadays - I actually find myself reading more young adult fantasy as I think the settings are more original. A great series I recommend is the Bartimeus set, written by Jonathon Stroud - a setting where magic is used amongst the backdrop of human history.

I guess the orcs and elves etc don't do it for me anymore. The only exception I make is for Terry Pratchett, who is one of my favourite authors of all time.

1200, That is a lot of books though if I had worked at a book store I'd probably be right up there with you.

Yea? Well I'll check them out. Always willing to try and hopefully get some new authors in the process :)

Well I prefer sticks that bring me joy not fights ;)

Haha, that is awesome!

*notices no one sneaking into the thread* >.>

Simon R. Green has some really good female characters. Shotgun Suzie is definitely a strong independent woman.

I have a spare joystick. Also a dice bag you could use if it comes to that.

While he doesn't specifically write fiction, Joe R. Lansdale has some very strong female characters. Particularly the book Sunset and Sawdust. The lead is female, fiery, and kicks major ass.

I concur about Brandon Sanderson writing strong female characters as well.

As for the 1200 books...I got most of them for 3 dollars or less. Many of them were even free as we had a system where if a book didn't sell, it went to clearance. If it didn't sell on clearance, we donated it to several different organizations. Before we shipped those out, the employees got first dibs and could take whatever they wanted for free. It was an incredible set up. I also worked with the best co-workers I have ever had. Alas, it paid shite, so I had to go elsewhere.
