Massachusetts - People who lost power- almost 94,000 Early risers will wake to the storm, still being a storm. I have a foot of snow.

Still slushy here in the city. I think the structures here tend to break up a lot of tempest.

After Sandy did here for almost a week, there's not much about weather to fear. I never worry about these things until they start yelling about shutting down the subways and rails. That means it's doing damage.

it's still snowing here too.. we got over 12inches an more to come til tomorro night.

zumi, they cut off New York Amtrak trains to Boston. 190,000 people without power.
Street signs and highway signs are coated with snow. Medical and emergency people
have to drive to work. Yikes Do not miss your exit. Vehicles are sliding off the road.

lol, they closed the highways here.

Should taper off in the late afternoon on Saturday. An adorable young lady said the storm is slapping her in the face.

Too busy, trying to keep the doorways clear and making sure the vents are not blocked with snow.

We got a foot and more to come.

Made snow forts all day with the boys.

Funnest day in a long time!

I don't think I will have to shovel my car out at 6am. I feel bad for the farther north workers. I am pretty sure they will be sleeping over at the hospitals.

On television, I watched beautiful New England homes get washed out to a freezing sea.
I felt horror and anguish as the people in them were drowned. 1992 ? 1993 ?
They could not be saved.

( Would usenet have made a difference, if computers were popularized earlier ?)

The 1978 Blizzard was not enough to convince them that there
was a threat to life, in these extreme storms.

High tide is due to hit the coast this morning. 32 foot waves were seen
further out to sea, last night. Floods are expected.

The driving ban is still on. The wind has made drifts, that are up to my hips.
Most of it is up to my knees. It was 16F when I went to bed.

I would tend to think so. I do not live anywhere near the ocean or in a disaster prone area but I get the impression that a lot of people perish in storms because they are not aware of how serious the threat is or are not prepared

With deailed, up to date information available easily you would think that at least some people would realize a serious situation and evacuate rather than pass it off as "just another storm".

we're hearing that some of you guys have 3 feet of snow and then some in places. stay safe :rose:

Boston is showing signs of life- Parking ban is over

Ahhh! What a relief it is. Boston is through with the worst the storm can throw at it.
Telling people that they would spend a year in jail, or pay a $500.00 fine, for scoffing
at the car ban- worked.

Some people are taking verbal swings, at Gov. Patrick for putting the vehicle ban in place.

His comeback was great- He pointed out the visibility problem, and pointed out the fact
that people were driving in the wrong direction, on a one direction highway.

(Snow blind! How do you get to your destination, when you cannot see where you are going?)

(Highway and street signs were blanked out with ice and snow- How do you know where you are going ?)

2007- A huge mistake was made. Gov. Patrick told everyone to go home, when it was clear
that we would have a record breaking storm. Everyone tried to go home, all at once. That
caused massive traffic tie-ups. This was a better solution. There was plenty of military vehicles
to haul people out of bad situations.

It is not funny, when a trip that should take an hour- Turns into a frightening, grueling five hour trip.

Please make sure your tail pipe is clear of snow. Carbon monoxide is dangerous.
