Hello All, I have been reading/listening here for a few years now, and am preparing my first submission. It's text with audio (although the audio is not a simple recitation of the text). Maybe I have missed something obvious, but I can't seem to figure out where to attach the audio file. I have successfully copied and pasted the text portion, but am having no luck with the audio file. One other question..is the purpose of the "notes" box on the submission form to leave notes for the editor? I wish to preface my text portion with some brief "instructions" that are not part of the story. Should I include these instructions in the story, but make a "note" asking that they be in a different font or something? Thanks in advance..

sorry, I must have missed the note right there about the "notes" section. I understand that part at least...duh!

There are instructions for submitting text w/ audio here, in the multimedia part of the Stories FAQ.

Regarding the Notes section of the submission form, the story one says this right under the box [emphasis mine]:
You may include any special instructions in the Notes field. These comments will not be shown on the site, they will only be read by the webmaster before posting the submission on the site. If you used the volunteer editing program, you should include the name of your editor in this box.

So, yes, you can include special instructions for your story, but read on. Notes to the reader should be included at the beginning of the text of your story, italicized, and prefaced by "Author's Note:" like:
Author's Note: I'd like to thank my editor, MemberXYZ, for putting in so much time and effort in pursuit of making this story the best it can be.

You can add your own text formatting quite easily, and your story will be posted much quicker if you do it yourself. Here are some tutorials from the Writer's Resources section of the Submit Your Work page:

http://www.literotica.com/s/bold-or-italic

Lit doesn't allow different fonts in stories. You get the standard font, and you can add emphasis with your own text formatting. Make sure your punctuation is correct, too; for instance, if you write dialogue properly, you shouldn't need a different font because the reader can easily distinguish what's going on via the use of new paragraphs, proper punctuation, and dialogue cues.

Thanks so much SweetErika...you have "fixed" me. Don't know how I missed it, but I did.

uploading pics

Hey Sweet Erica, you have already responded once to my question, but in your reply you asked me to forward the picture to you and you'd see if you could help. I would be happy to do that, but I don't see anywhere in this section to send an attachment or upload anything. I've read, and re-read the instructions, and still it does'nt work. Just to reiterate the problem: I have a story to submit and it has a picture with it. The story is in word, with the picture (a jpeg) having been pasted into the word doc. Submission continues to reject with 'pending' for two weeks. Frustration is mounting. Thanks

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't see where you've posted on How To before this, nor do I recall ever asking you to send me a picture (that's simply something I don't do, unless I was trying to help someone I knew well or similar). You must be thinking of someone else.

If your picture is pasted in the Word doc, they probably can't see it. I don't know what to tell you, other than you should probably submit the text of the story in the text box (NOT in Word) alone. Forget the picture, as it's probably not integral to your story (or if it is, maybe you didn't do a very good job 'showing' readers what you mean in the text). See if that gets approved.
