I'm happy to do this via PM. I'm trying to help out my old office by doing some layout on an old program, Adobe PageMaker 7. Problem is, my old laptop (PC running XP) with the PM7 software is acting up; first the program didn't respond, and now the computer keeps shutting off when I try to restart. I get as far as clicking the user name but then it shuts down.

Anyway, if I can get this up long enough, I thought I'd copy the PM7 files to another computer (PC running Win7) which I know does work more reliably. I realize I will need more than that b/c of the registry. Has anyone done anything like this? What else might I need to do or copy? And I realize it may not work anyway but I don't have the PM7 disks.

Sounds like the laptop is overheating. Blow out the vents to and from the fan.

As for the program, nope, just copying the files won't work without the disks to load the program.

Yeah, thanks. Problem was solved when my boss (of sorts) gave me instructions for remote connections and I was able to paste up the issue that way, which had a lot of advantages. I was sure overheating was an issue, as well. I'll see what I can do about the vents and fan; it's an XP computer and kind of old but generally functions pretty well. OTOH aside from that PM software, I don't need it much, so it's probably not worth keeping.
