I generally go one of two ways: IRL, it hearkens to the image of a dog marking his terriroty, etc. In fantasy (specifically one where I'm writing about GT/sw sex) then it's about being literally overwhelmed by the stuff a la bondage and humiliation, physically and by the senses.
