Hey everybody, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament brackets are about to be released, and I want to start a little pool. Who's in?

For whoever's interested, I'll post the rules and contact information within the hour.

Okay, here be the rules:

1. I will post a list of the first-round matchups in the following post, or you can use ESPN.com's bracket. Or any other one, for that matter.

2. Somehow, someway, connote who you think will win the matches. I'm a big boy, I'll figure it out. Also, include your prediction for the total number of points in the national championship game.

3. PM your bracket to me. I know, I constantly have PM-box problems, but I cleaned the shit out of it, so I should have tons of room. If my box is full: don't panic. Either e-mail them to me at psychicman65@yahoo.com , or, if you're brave, post them here.

4. SCORING:

First round games: 1 point
Second round games: 2 points
Regional semifinals: 4 points
Regional finals: 8 points
National semifinals: 16 points
National championship: 32 points

Tiebreakers: In case of a tie, the winner will be whoever gets the most games right in each round, in reverse order. For example, if one person correctly predicts the national champion and the others do not, the person who gets the champion right wins. If they both get it right (or wrong), then it continues on — who got the finalists right, who got more of the Final Four right, et cetera, until a winner can be determined. If there's still a tie, the winner is the person who comes closest to predicting the total number of points in the final game, and if that is a tie, then the winner is the person who does not go over. Hopefully, that should settle it.

Why not use Yahoo's online thingy? It's the same scoring system. Just form a group.

Bleh. I wasn't sure if you'd need a real name for that. I know ESPN's does.

Plus, it's just one less webpage to navigate through. We can hold all the trash-talking in this thread. :D

Only if I can I have Kentucky or Arizona... ;)

Edit... I guess I should have read the begining of the thread....

No, you pick all the games. But I give weight to the more important games, so if you're right with Kentucky or Arizona, you'll do okay. :)

Damn right.

Hold the phone on the brackets! The Selection Committee put Brigham Young in a spot where, if they win against UConn, they'll have to play on Sunday. As a Mormon university, they never play on Sundays. So BYU is petitioning them to move the dates or move their slot.

The NCAA is entertaining the idea of switching them with Weber State, the 12 seed in the Midwest Regional.

geeze if there was a Muslim university in the tourney would they get special consideration to not play on a Friday? How about an all Yeshiva team? Would they get Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, or could they send in a Saturday goy team?

Well, it's not like that belief just snuck up on them. The Selection Committee should have seen that coming. They clearly messed up a few things in their bracket picks.

They decided to solve it by announcing that if BYU survives that far (I was wrong, BYU wouldn't play on Sunday until the Round of 8), they'll just pick them up and switch them with whoever comes out of the similar part of the Midwest Regional.

so I can make my picks at any time before thursday?
Yeah. No rush.

Minkey, I don't know about the Bonnies. They lost their last two games by a score of 2-0. Their offense doesn't really have enough for me.

Jeeeze, what about putting Arizona and Kentucky on the same side of the bracket, making the real National championship game take place in the semi-final (if they both survive.) Being a Big XII fan, I personally love it, but it does seem to be a mistake.

Kudos to the selection commitee for keeping the whining bully, Bob Knight out of the dance.

Yeah, that was dumb. I think Kansas deserved a #1 seed over Texas, and Pittsburgh deserved a #1 seed somewhere, or at least a #2 seed in someone else's bracket besides Kentucky's.

I think Texas Tech deserved to make it, since the refs screwed them against Oklahoma. If they had beat both the Sooners and Texas, they probably would have gotten in.

And Boston College absolutely took it up the ass.

I don't think Alabama or Auburn deserved their berths, so I have them both losing in the first round.

The Selection Committee fucked up all over. They should be embarrassed by their choices and how the damn thing was put together.

The only thing I really feel confident about is Weber St making the Sweet 16.... I'm flipping coins for everything else.

Oh, and Kentucky and Arizona playing the National Championship game in the semi-finals.

What a fucking mess.

Weber State, huh?

I like that call. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for the fact that I like Dayton and think the Flyers are underappreciated, then I probably would have penciled them in my Sweet 16 as well.

You're right about the unpredictablity. I think a lot of the top teams will bite it and bite it hard, and I think it will be the perennial powerhouses who will be more likely to be bounced than the relative newcomers.

I laughed at all the so-called "experts" who went pretty much for chalk in the Sweet 16. At least Digger Phelps picked Syracuse for the national championship on ESPN. I don't agree, but at least it was ballsy.

I have six upsets by seed in my Sweet 16, and five in the Elite 8, because I honestly think there will be that many. The trick is which Cinderellas to pick. I only have one double-digit seed in my Sweet 16, but two sixes and an eight in the Elite 8 and a six and a four in the Final Four. It's either crazy, or crazy enough to work.

Right now I've got Syracuse in the Final Four. I like the way the bracket breaks for them - plus they're practically playing at home the first 2 weekends.

But I'm still fiddling. I'm starting to like Wisconsin-Milwaukee over Notre Dame. ND is such a dog going into the tourny.

I want to like Butler, too, but I think Miss St. is a team that got seeded too low. I saw them as a 4 seed and if Butler was up against another team I'd think hard about it.

Tough brackets.

If it were anyone else, then I'd definitely pick UWM over a team playing as badly as the Irish have been recently. But I don't have the heart to axe them in the first round.

For what it's worth, lots of people picked them to be upset the last two years, and they won both their first-round games. They lost horribly in the second round, though.

Do you know what was in question there? 2/10ths of a second. If it had been anybody besides Bobby Knight, it would have been forgoten the next day. As it was it was investigated by both the Big XII and the NCAA, and determined to be an uncorectable error. So what does Knight want? He expects Oklahoma to forfit and crys about OU's integerity when it doesn't happen. Even if they had won that game they still would have had a record of 19-11 and 9-10 in the Big XII. You don't have a losing record in your conference and go the the Big Dance. They are going to the NIT, where they belong.
