The rain pounded down on her small body soaking the old jeans she wore. Her lock gold hair was hanging about her face giving the appearance of an elfin creature with big golden brown eyes. Her body was racked with the shivers from the cold when she came across a huge cabin in the middle of the woods. The name 'Grizzley' was written on the mailbox next to the driveway. The cabin itself looked like it had three levels.
Goldie Lockwood knew better than to rush into a situation but her situation was desperate. It had been close to three days since she had last eaten. She found an unlocked window in the rear of the home and slowly climbed in. The home was dark but there was a lamp still on when she broke in. As hungry as she was, Goldie had to have a shower. Her mother would roll over in her grave if she ate when her hands were this dirty,
She found one of the bedrooms on the first floor. The room was that of a dedicated sports fan. There was a Denver Broncos poster hanging next to a Peyton Manning jersey. There was a nerf basketball goal attached to the door to the closet. Goldie opened the closet to look for a shirt to change into. She found a large white button down shirt that would fit.
On the wall she noticed a picture of a group of three men who had to be brothers. They looked like each other in different ways and the way they smiled just beamed comraderie. It was something she never had while living on the streets. Goldie walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. The hot water felt like heaven against her cold skin. She was happy that the soap was generic dial and she didn't have to smell like a man. The shampoo was head and shoulders as well which she didn't mind.
Once she was done and dry, Goldie slipped on the shirt she had gotten out of the closet. Wanting to at least keep her jeans, she found the washer and dryer in the back hallway. Once she could leave, she would at least have clean clothes. Her stomach growled so she made her way to the kitchen and found some bowls of chili on the counter. She tried one but it was way too spicy and the next was too bland. The third was perfect and her stomach welcomed the delicious flavor.
Once the bowl was empty, Goldie rinsed out the bowl and left it in the sink. Now she was bored and wanted something to read. She found another bedroom in the corner area of the house. Goldie was amazed at the number of books lining the walls. There was a degree hung on the wall from Harvard. "Impressive." She said to herself. She got excited when she found a copy of Salem's Lot.
Goldie went to the livingroom to find a comfortable spot to sit. The first chair she tried was one of those fancy recliners and it was way too hard, making her ass hurt. The second was an oversized plush chair that she nearly got lost in. The last chair was a fancy lawn chair that folded up but she found it comfortable. As she read she didn't pay attention to her movements and a screw came loose on the chair, making her topple to the floor. "DAMN!" She felt kind of guilty for breaking the thing but there was nothing she could do about it.
She placed the book on the coffee table and stood up, a yawn just barely coming out of her mouth. Goldie decided it might be a good idea to get some sleep while she was in a dry place. She looked around until she saw that the basement had been converted to another bedroom. She hit the lights and walked into what had to be Rambo's bedroom. Whoever this room belonged must have been a military man. She saw a few awards hung on the back wall. Goldie could barely stand so she curled up in the full-sized bed, turned off the lights and fell into a deep sleep.
