I have a few questions... I've looked, but I can't find the answers anywhere.
The drivers win money for each lap they lead? How much?
The drivers win for winning the race - how much?
They also win for other things they do in the race? How much?
And where can I find the info?
Thanx in advance

The drivers drive for a team. Each team generally has 3 or 4 drivers. How much each driver is paid is determined by his (or her) contract with the team owner. Each team is a corporation employing 100s of people. Money comes from driver winnings (each race has a different pot divided up in different ways), sponsorships (all the decals on the car), endorsements (advertisments featuring the driver) and selling fan stuff to fans (fans are typically loyal to one driver (i.e. Dale Earnhart Jr. is very popular even though he only wins once every two or three years).

The popular drivers win several million per year (Earnhart, Gordon, Johnson (who are on the same team btw).

NASCAR also has several levels with the Sprint Cup being the highest level. New drivers start in the Truck Series and/or the Nationwide series). The team owners generally have drivers in the 'minor leagues' waiting for a chance to drive in a Sprint Cup race.

The drivers and teams compete for points during the season. Points are awarded for finishing position for each race, leading a lap, leading the most laps and some others I don't remember. As the season progresses the drivers are ranked by points. With 10 races to go, only the top 10 (I think) continue to compete for points, and at the end of the season, the top point getter is crowned the champion - probably earning a bonus from his owner because the TV exposure brings in more revenue from off-track sources.

The amount of money an individual driver earns varies greatly depending on his (or her) deal with the team owner. The cream of the crop can dictate terms, but the slot-fillers generally take what's offered.

Awesome. If you ever drop beets, we should go see a race.

Big billy style.

I think Johnny just about covered all your questions.:)

and I didn't know many of the answers either and i follow the races closely.

I doubt that anybody really knows the payout methods in NASCAR and doesn't have the last name of France.

Once upon a time, NASCAR had some relevance to what hotrodders were doing and could reasonably do. Any more, that just ain't so.

And once upon a time footballers wore leather helmets...

Wasn't the motto, "watch them race it on Sunday, go buy it from a dealer on Monday"? That is they raced real stock cars, like you or I could buy.

Thankyou for replying.
I didn't realise that winnings there go to the team, rather than the driver.
Maybe I was confused because I just read somewhere that Marcos Ambrose has won over $2M this year.....

My NASCAR Sprint Cup question is the following: how does a spectator keep from yawning during the race?

watching the race myself. It would be much more fun with WQ's beautifull ass here tho:D

That means we are getting it live here, because it's on right now.
First time ever.
Normally we get the coverage a few hours later.

then we are almost watching it together. But I still think your ass is much racier!

I love racing!
A V8 race weekend is full-on in this house... we get the tv's set up so no matter where we are in the house/yard, we can see the race.
First bourbon is at qualifying, and then we have no choice but to finish the bottle before the race ends.
Then it's a bbq dinner to finish.
And we do it all again the next day :D
