Naming trends in countries outside the US.

Yes, who names their daughter Mercedes?

Someone who doesn't listen to Chris Rock.
One of my coworkers refers to all the money they spend on camps and activities for their daughter as the "poll tax". It's the tax they pay to keep her off a poll. First time she explained it to me I about died.

Mercedes is not uncommon.

Neither is Porsche.

I've even heard of a few Corvettes.

Not so many Hondas or Pintos though.

Actually, I was making a joke. The Mercedes brand was actually named after the designer's daughter, Mercedes Jellinek.

Yeah, it might have been OK a hundred years ago...not so much anymore.
Gaylord was a perfectly acceptable name once upon a time. I'm thinking a boy with that name would have a rough time these days.

One of the best name-related lines I recall came from the sitcom Anger Management, with Charlie Sheen.
Flirty woman: "Hi, I'm Lacey. Like my underwear."

But if he turns out to be a real bear, he'll probably appreciate it.

I had a boss in the Navy whose last name was Gaylord. He was a fucking prick. Not sure if that was his personality or it was from years of abuse. None of us ever thought to joke about it within hearing range for fear of the consequences.

My wife worked with a guy with Glasscock for a last name. He had two daughters.

In the 70s, Leonard Woodcock (UAW Head) was nicknamed SplinterDick.

Ann is a very common Swedish first name. Ahl is a very common Swedish surname. You'd think the parents wouldn't be so cruel as to combine the two into Ann Ahl (which is pronounced like anal in the Swedish language, of course) - but it's actually quite common. A name like that has to increase their chances of doing butt stuff significantly, I would assume, since guys would be thinking about it each time they'd introduce themselves..

@Devinter you just made my day. That's probably the funniest thing I've ever heard about Sweden. Very subtle trolling.

(I always say that the names you give your kids are advance payback for all the crap they give you later on.)
