Why do what everybody else does? Be different.
If I ever had a kid, which I won't, I'd look at those top ten lists for names to be sure not to use.
Be bold. Name your boy Sue.
Ok, so far we got Babble On calling black people "depraved" and "stupid." Nice90s weighed in with "skanky."
Anybody else? C'mon, y'all are on a roll.
Whatever happened to Hilda? Heidi? Alice?
I think she'll know.
It's my turn today.
Mel's a good name for a play on names. The hottest mel (after Gibson ofc) I ever saw was Griffith.
I have a cousin named Heidi. I also like unique or unique spelled names. I gave my two boys regular names that are spelled unconventional, yet a low chance of getting their job applications tossed in the trash at first glance, when they reach working age.Whatever happened to Hilda? Heidi? Alice?
Maybe her story could be set in a restaurant in a town in Northern Territory AU.
I didnāt respond, I just hit the black buttonNice90s was specifically addressing Mel's persona as Scary Spice, and went so far as to acknowledge it is an act.
That isn't racist by any reasonable measure.
Perhaps because we were talking about people named Mel, and...wait for it... she's the one named Mel. Shocking I know! The fact that neither of you see anything racist in casually referring to a black celebrity as "skanky"...when her "persona" is no different from the white Spice Girls...is almost as troubling as if the disrespect had been maliciously intentional
Oh gods. Heathers. If I use that horrid name, best believe they're the villain. Every one I've known was a batshit crazy bitch. I avoid them like the plague.I do a little online looking-up to try to keep character names age-appropriate without just falling back on the names of people I know IRL. There are a lot of Heathers my age and I often blink at the number of them who show up as teenagers in online porn. Maybe it tells you something about the age of the writers.
Good question, actually. I suppose I got what little ego I have get the best of me, and got caught up. Although I didn't really wanna escalate it either. If I really want a flame war, I can go on twitter or reddit and act a fool. Some of us do, in a way, know each other well enough, either by activity or history, too, at least know how we present ourselves, to have an idea of what's a joke or snarky comment.I appreciate you acknowledging what little you acknowledged. I'm about ready to move on from you and just deal with this idiot Karen who won't shut up, but a couple of points for you.
First, you talk about people understanding "context", then consider your "stupid" comment was in the early stages of an escalating exchange between us, it was clearly connected to the earlier "depraved" comment you have acknowledged, and I didn't know at that point that you are black. Should that matter? Probably not, but I probably would have let it go at that point had I known.
Second, if you're so thick-skinned and contextual, why didn't you just laugh it off and move on?
Third, regarding your comment that "we don't push or intend to be cruel for no reason," I'm sorry but that is entirely at odds with my experience here. You've said you were joking, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and accept that. But applying the royal "we" is laughable because, to be blunt, quite a few people here are complete douchebags.
Name your kid Barbie and her odds of one day having plastic surgery might increase dramatically.![]()
