I apologize for snipping your post but I had to tell you I thought this comment phenomenal.

I always find it interesting how many times I am told on this board that I am naive. Usually this comes from men who are at least a decade my senior who disagree with me.

I think their calling me on my "naivete" is analagous to a response I could make that they are simply washed up and don't get it anymore. Maybe I should start telling them that they simply can't remember their facts in their old age.

Don't you find it interesting that almost every liberal is naive. It's quite amusing that when women, on this site, who are liberal express their opinion, they are simply naive.

Isn't this an argument that was made by Franklin during the Enlightenment *cough cough*?

Damn it...who would do such a thing...:D

you'll never forgive me will you...

Point taken but until he acknowledges certain issues I repeatedly raise, I will continue to loudly disagree with him on many more issues.

I was mainly relating my gained experience as an athlete to other people's gained experience as an aged political observer. I know how and what to do in my sport, however I must keep my body healthy, continually grind it out everyday, and keep my youthful excitement despite recognizing I will break no world records. If I don't do the above, my venture in that sport is over. When it is over I either must try to pass along my knowledge utilising athe right balance between an optimistic and realistic attitude or I have to apply what I've learned to help me in another situation.

Something I remember from basic psychology is Erikson's Theory of Personal and Social Development, the last two stages are Generativity versus Stagnation; Integrity versus Despair. I don't doubt these "reformed" liberals are trying to be in the correct column but in their unending quest to get the "depraved" youth and the "terminally" naive into that column they neglect big issues and they lose credibility. What I mean and what I infer Siren and Lavender continue to drive at is, we plan to make it a point not to neglect those big issues. Call it determination or call it wishful and unrealistic thinking, only time will tell.

BTW, I haven't even opened the MINK thread. From what I've seen of the spillage, I probably won't either. My point of view is the Vegans already have the respect for animals and the carnivores should be constantly reminded they need to have a high level of respect for animals.

I hope I stay young, idealistic and naive on at least some level for a very long time.

You beat me to it. I was going to tell her it was an excellent way of phrasing what the rest of us have been trying to say in a lot more words. :)

Yuppers! I love it when someone can so eloquently speak that which my fingers can't seem to articulate.

Lioness, I'm involved in 99% of the threads Ishmael and Uncle Bill have been in the past 4months. They know what I'm talking about. This thread isn't intended to be completely understood by LIT POLY NEWBIES, we've been going at it a while. They are using their experience card here but they continue to neglect environmental issues and how to increase education for all citizens. Those are two issues that shouldn't be forgotten, those are two issues I will not forget. They all said they were previously liberals so they must be "reformed". BTW, I don't appreciate your condescending tone (you prolly wish I was joking, I'm not).

Let's start with the fact that you jump in a thread and start calling names with your first post. Understand that that puts you on virtually the same level as the trolls. I have not been the only target of your provocations

With your next post you go completely off subject. That makes you, more or less, a thread hijacker. This is a trait that you have repeated with others.

If you would like to talk about the environment, start a thread. Hopefully based on some scientific data rather than some 'feel good' bull shit. I'm sure that UB, myself, and a host of others would be willing to engage you. However if it is your position that you can make some provocative statement, based on assumptions, with logical holes that my drunken indian brother AJ can drive a truck through after downing the better part of a fifth of Black Jack, then you will probably be dissappointed in our responses. And that has been your past history with posting. Not an engaged debate, but more of a platform for your ranting. Personally, I'd as soon not provide you with the soap box you seem to desire.

I reciently moved my 78 year old mother-in-law in with us, and in the process moved several cans of books and papers that I had stored in her garage for 28 years. It was amazing to go and look at what I thought was important then in the light of what I cherish now. Out of over 250 gallons (5 55 gallon cans) of assorted material, what I saved fits into a 2x3x4 foot box. Even more surprising are some of the papers and op.ed. peices that I wrote for the campus newspaper. I had my facts right, my logic was good, and I was so wrong. The bigest thing was that what I had thought were core beliefs turned out to be merely political opinions.

The core beliefs have remained constient: doing to others as I would be done by, forgiving and forgeting honest mistakes, applying any standard of behavor to myself first, loving my neighbor as mysyself. How I aplly them to my life and political activity has changed radically, and I pray will continue to do so.

The oldtime CONs have shown me their leaders: Reagan, GWB, Gramm, Helms, Cheney, Ashcroft. Scalia, Thomas, Armey, DeLay, Lott-I'd rather burn in the firey pits of HELL than to ever show anything but contempt for them. I'll continue to wait for their proof personified. They better hurry up, my personal library is growing, we all know adventures in nature, myths, classical epics, poetry, and mostphilosophical works are an ultra-industrialisingCAP's worst nightmare. They reveal to people that stuff is just stuff, even young Carnegie had some pointed words about bigtymers like Vanderbilt, "I would not exchange his millions for my knowledge of Shakespeare."

Well, some people don't sell out, famed 19th century critic E.L. GODKIN in 1899 at age 70,"I am, heart and soul, an American of the vielle roche. American ideals were the intellectual food of my youth, and to see America converted into a senseless, Old World conquerer, embitters my age."

Sure I'll adapt but my primary views are enscounced rather than fleeting. Oldtyme CONs/ultraCAPs need to recognise they've misplaced something precious and should look to preserve it for others to enjoy.

posting your breast to try to turn paganangel on was naive

Another bump!

I've had the comments on naivete as well. I generally disregard the comments, because I cannot comprehend how they bring anything to a discussion except tension. It's a condescending statement which implies that one is not intelligent enough to comprehend a specific subject.

The only comments I invairably am offended by are those that deal with integrity, I generally dislike people who consistently question someone else's integrity and yet insist that they are beyond reproach.

Fuck'em.

Naivete has nothing to do with intelligence and a great deal to do with wisdom.

Fuck you ;)
