Arguing time takes away from poetry-writing time. Seems logical enough to me...

Apparently not, which is why these things keep being dragged up from the basement and strewn around the living room. There seems to be perhaps three or four people who won't let their disagreements die.

I've used the Ignore function in the past to good effect. You might try that.

There should be no need for divisions in this community. Who is to say whether one user can be considered 'intellectual' and another, not?

I respect the wisdom and input of users such as Senna Jawa et al

The problem is that they aren't arguing about poetry. They're arguing about "you are a mean person" and that "you are driving people away".

In fact, I think the constant argument is what drives people away, regardless of which side, if either, someone empathizes with. I know I've thought about leaving simply because the irritation factor is so high. It's like having neighbors who play their television too loudly and who have screaming arguments in the middle of the night. Sometimes the only way to solve that is to move someplace else.

One thing I try to do when these threads pop up is to post on threads where actual poetry is being written or discussed or somehow present in order to push them back out of sight. It's a lost battle, because someone will always reply again (usually with something that does add anything) and bring it back up, but you gotta keep at it!

You have obviously failed to understand what I'm talking about. I have no problems with criticism and argument but what I don't appreciate is mud slinging and all this crappy name calling

i view the opposing forces in a different way -- ones of honesty vs. mendacity, one with a keen sense of justice and the other with none at all . . .

simply a difference of opinion in the way we view it, and that's what makes the world go round.

and Christian, there is no doubt that the goings-on can be not only painfully boring but downright annoying.

however, this a community of poets, who are also people. and, like all people, they have opinions and personalities.

what community limits itself in the manner you suggest, to ask people to eliminate much of what they are and include only a small portion of their being, their poems and opinions of said poetry?

the objection, i think, should be when the tedious arguments spill over onto threads where they do not belong, namely the poetry-based threads. if they are confined to their own threads, no one has to read them, unless they wish.

isn't that the way a community works? . . . freedom of speech, without license? the ability to say what you wish without infringing upon others?

that, in my opinion, is what "growing up" connotes. not restricting what you don't like, but separating it so it does not infringe on you, or on those who don't wish it to.

here ..is infringing..when a person hijacks a thread for their own agenda..right or wrong...truth or fiction...it serves no purpose other than to malign the integrity of thought on any given subject...who decides truth...but , those who accuse for the purpose of their own truth!!! We are forgetting the fact...that this site is entertainment not confinement....and that old saying...opinions are like assholes...we all have them...remind me not not to crap on another souls nest...out of consideration of their right to be their own truth..

i agree, 100%.

whatever disagreements there may be, they should be confined to their own threads and not impose on the integrity of threads that are devoted to other things, whether that be poetry or not.

As far as these threads are concerned, do you seriously think much poetry goes on in some of these soapboxes? Your friend, blue, has yet to make a sincere apology to anyone and alot of people here deserve it, only then will you have what you want, honest discussion about poetry. Your friend has yet to make a direct answer, if I have to go into his threads to go after him I will.
I do not see this as a petty argument, more an ongoing correction, a return to value.
The place needs more Senna Jawa, Decayed Angel, more thought, less Ambition, logorrhea. And then I will also disappear.

What is "cheap religion"? Is that Christianity? or one of the many other organized hypocrisies that call themselves spiritual or "right". This group of "poets" is all about interaction and an obvious byproduct of that is relationship.

The condemnation of someone/anyone who posts on the site truly shows arrogance and pomposity. If there is ANY group of people on the planet who less deserve muckraking for subjectivity it is a group of poets. We are the hidden voice of the masses, stating what to the many is obvious, but to those in charge comes out as possibly incendiary and contradictory to their own ambitions.

We should champion the cause and guts of those who make their case publicly, not attempt to rip them because we don't agree with them or because they have friends who enjoy reading their writing! Objectivity, vanilla ice cream, grammatical black and white,and poetry ALL grow on different trees.

Face it, regardless of background, age, belief systems, etc. we are all here to learn and experience. It may be apparent that someone who is learning the craft may have less skill than someone who has been writing for many years, but everyone starts out on wet and on their back.

In this case, "Crap" is someones reckless opinion condemning someone else for having a good time thinking differently, hurting nobody.

I have gone almost a year and I come back to find the same ignorance plaquing the threads. I came back to read and learn hoping peace was reigning in the valley only to find the valley still is riddled with fueding pilgrims. I have to sift through to the verbal ping pong of wasted time in order to find some inspiration. Sad.... why do we have to fight? Why not just write?
