just happy to see you here, babe...and AV reinstated.. everyone needs a little moonie in their day :)

has someone recommended Little Miss Sunshine?

will laugh your bits off...and grabs a box of tissues... might need some-a these too... but that might just be me.
2 other really good "laugh and cry" movies... love actually and heart and souls.

Ah, you like the silly movies.
I loved the American Pie movies I & II. Something About Mary also completely cracks me up!
I will have to check out Man of the House, I love Tommy Lee Jones, he's great. I don't think I've seen Fear yet either, but both good actors so I'll add it to my que. Thanks sweetie!
yeah, I mostly like goofy ones these days, or action.... some scary, too, but none of them really scare me anymore.

you were supposed to have already added fear, missy. *looks at you sternly*

grandma's boy is a must see, IMO.

Have you ever seen Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.

Hands down. My two favorite movies of all time.

Of course.. i love long drawn out neurotic emotional analyses of the social condition so... it might not be for everyone.

Those two and The Usual Suspects.

I'm sorry, Gabriel Byrne and Kevin Spacey within a 48" space.

Can anyone say...died and gone to heaven?

;)

double post?

what double post?

what are you talking about??

i don't see a double post...

this is a separate post all in its own right!

:p
;)

Damnit! I almost forgot again too...doing it now. *blush*
Casino Royale was different, not what I expected.

nope, haven't seen them. the reviews I saw suggested that mostly what happens is... well... just a lot of talking. if you can dig a movie like that, more power to you. I don't like to have to think that much. love actually is as intellectual as I get.

well... is different good or bad?

mrtnmoon...

I've been AWOLit too much and wanted to drop in and say howdy.

Wishing you a great weekend!

In this case, different was good, LOL. I'd re-watch it eventually. It took a bit to get use to this new guy as 007, and it seemed long. But all in all pretty good, beautifull scenery, and plenty of build up of the character's early days to be amusing too.

I'll probably watch it when it gets to cable. I haven't watched a lot of the james bond movies, but of the ones I've seen sean connery was my favorite bond. roger moore and pierce brosnan just seem too prissy to be some badass spy. at least from the ads I saw, daniel craig seemed to be a little closer to connery's bond.... except for not having dark hair, of course.

repost from a father's day thread...

usually I'm a wreck this time of year from thinking about my dad... he died on may 19, his birthday is may 31, and then father's day comes along in june. so, from about the middle of may til the middle of june, the dark side of the moon is even darker than usual.... if you can imagine that. this year I've been so caught up in the heart troubles that I and especially my mom have been having that I haven't even thought about my dad much, and that in it's own way makes me sad, too.

I'm not as eloquent as most of the other people who have posted, but here are a couple of things I remember about my dad.

he loved to work on cars and sometimes I had to help him. damn, I hated it! all the grease...ugh. I never could understand the attraction, but right now I'd love to hear him ask me to hand him a wrench.

he loved to ride his motorcycle. even after his lungs got so bad that he had to be on oxygen all the time, he'd ride... just strap the tank on the back of his bike. one day he came home and had this weird look on his face.... mom thought something was wrong with him. turns out he was thrilled that he had just gotten a speeding ticket when he was out riding. made him feel like "the wild one" again, I guess. he kept that ticket tacked up on his bulletin board for the rest of his life.

the thing I admire most about my dad is that he could talk to anyone, about almost anything. oh, it could be annoying, if he was in the store and you were out in the car waiting. but, in all my lifetime of shyness I've come to realize what a gift it is and I wish I had that ability to just go up to someone and start talking like he did. after 10 minutes you'd swear they'd been friends for years.

I love you dad, and miss you. happy father's day.

Thanks for that Moonbeam.

My dad passed last March (on my brother's 60th birthday)

My dad wasn't tall but he made up for it with a fiesty attitude. I guess I got that from him. I miss him more than I ever thought I would. I was his little girl from the first time he saw me - spoiled me rotten. Never laid a finger on me in anger.
He used to hold me in his lap to watch the "Twighlight Zone" - I'd hide my eyes in his shirt when it got too scary and he'd hold me and chuckle that his little girl was a chicken.
He new I got over being a "fraidy cat" the day he watched me graduate from the Fire Academy.
He was strong willed (stubborn) but would cry like a baby watching "White Christmas"
Survived 35 missions in the nose of a B24 over Germany and then at 85 his heart finally said it was ready to rest.

I miss you daddy - every day. Oh, but you make the best sunsets I've ever seen. I love you. :rose:

Thanks Moonie - hope I didn't drag your thread too far down in the dumpers.

well, first of all.... if you read this thread with any regularity you should know that I never fear getting it dragged down... hell, I often do the dragging myself.

second of all.... you didn't do that at all, and I'm honored that you chose to share some of your memories here. I hope everyone that stops by will feel free to do the same... I probably have at least a few more coming.

so, to sum up, you're welcome and thank you. :rose:

I do read your thread hon and try to be an upper of sorts. You know me - I like to keep things "elevated" (especially where you're concerned) ;)

since it's raining pretty hard right now (yay! please cool us off a bit), I'm reminded of one of the sayings my dad used to use all the time:

it's rainin' harder than a tall cow pissin' down on a flat rock

he had some other ones... I have know idea where he first heard them, but he grew up in Ga. not saying that's good or bad, I'm just saying. I dunno how many I can remember, but right off the top of my head are:

it's colder than a witch's tit
it's colder than a well-digger's ass
if the good lord's willin' and the creek don't rise
I'll pay you the 2nd tuesday of next week
I'm bad, I'm nationwide (ok, he ripped that one from zz top, but it kind of became his theme song as his health got worse.)

LOL - Love those and have heard some uttered from my dad's mouth too. Born and raised in Iowa so not quite as far south as Georgia.

Slipperier than snot on a door knob.
You have to be smarter than the box to get it open.
That'll wake you up faster than a fork up the ass. (YIKES)
Get your fanny outta bed - we're burning daylight.
Worryin' is like chasin' your tail - don't get you anywhere but damned fun to watch.
Busier than a 3 peckered billy goat.
Nervous like a long tailed cat in a room full of rockin' chairs.

He may have borrowed a few of these but he said them like they were his own.

And, like you, I know there are more but the mind is blanking on me.

I've heard some of those, too. I guess those kinds of sayings are universal. another thing he used to say, like if you were trying to open a bottle or can and couldn't get it and had to get him to do it: you weren't holdin' your mouth right.

These are the kinds of things I wanted to pass on to my kids - but now just tell my cats. They don't seem to get most of them and can't really open a jar of pickles too well anyway.

glad you liked them, and looking forward to any contributions you have. I really wish I remembered more about my dad.... that's one thing I feel kind of guilty about, but it's been over 20 years now.

Wow, that's a long time, hon. My dad is full of little wisdomisms. He was the first to tell me things like, "Always remember when pointing your finger at someone that their are three more pointed back at you", "when it seems the whole world is disagreeing with you, it's time to look in the mirror and see what they do", "never give a person an ultimatum without fully expecting a disappointment" rules to live by kind of stuff. Nothing so clever as yours.
