I have a question. I just read the lengthy rules for this Forum, and, of course, I respect them, but I don't understand this one:

4. No posting of your own private email address

At the bottom of (most of) our posts are links which will lead you to our private e-mails. Is this a problem here?

Hi DCL, ya know what I've never really understood that one myself, but oh well.

Nice to see ya. :D

Actually, DCL, I would do a double-check on that one. I've had my email disabled since I started with Lit. I just searched through a number of large posts, and noticed that no one has "email" listed at the bottom of their posts. (Where "www", "pm", etc are located) So, I just enabled my email to display publically to all users. It doesn't show up.

Evidently Laurel and Manu disabled this feature.

Besides, when I've emailed people using the "email" feature before, I would get a form to complete, without any address visible to me.

I believe the warning here is just as a way to remind people to protect their private information. Also, as a precaution about posting other's emails addresses? (I know it's not worded that way, but.....)

Anyway, just my thoughts and observations.

Hi DCL,

It is nice to see you popping in.

By clicking the "e mail" link at the bottom of a post, the poster receives an e mail generated through the lit server and the sender is not privy to the poster's e mail addy.

It is an issue of safety. As has been discussed, ad nauseum, on the GB, an e mail address or IP number can provide any degree of info from which a poster could be placed in an uncomfortable or unsafe position. Many people don't understand the risks of randomly sharing their e mail addy.

Also, in my own perception, by disccouraging the posting of e mail addies, we are also discouraging the posting of personal ads or posts that could be twisted into personal ads.

I hope this helps. Perhaps, Risia will be able to respond better to your question.

Take care
MissT

Thanks, Chele.

I wasn't aware of the changes. *blushing*

I guess I didn't get the memo!

:D

That's okay, Miss T. I'm out of the loop as well! :)

That all makes sense, and, yeah, I've noticed the deletion of everyone's e-mail, too. My e-mail is a Literotica.org address, so no one's gonna find out nuthin about me. But I can see that some people are stupid enough to post their work or home e-mail. I suppose that's what you mean by "personal" e-mail. But I can certainly give away my Lit address, can't I?

Rules are just made to be broken, aren't they? People like me are so damn annoying.

LMAO... I have a literotica email address too and I get absolutely no email there. Well wait.... a 19 year old boy in Henderson (a Las Vegas suburb) liked my poetry and likes older women and wanted a date. But that doesn't really count, does it?

"Annoying", DCL? Why, that's what is so lovable about you! I don't think the powers that be would have a problem with a Lit addy. After all, I hear Miss T can be quite reasonable!

Then everyone send explicit nude photos of you and your vegetables to dixon@literotica.org. In return you will get a super new free one of a kind offer of $2 off your next carpet cleaning!

But I have all wood floors.

And I do have some explicit nude pics here at Lit somewhere in the Am Pic site. Damn, do I have to dig them up again?

Some folks who post have no common sense. I actually have seen some folks post a phone number. Of course it was deleted, but all I could think of was "What are you thinking?"

LOL
