EL's already seen it, and I don't think I'll keep it "public" for too long--day or two maybe, just so some folks can see it (those I tell). But, so here's the backstory:
When I was sixteen, I met this girl at "Smart Kid Camp" (not its official name, but I was a bright fella, it was a secluded program for smart folks... blah, blah. blah). We spent the Summer of '97 together. It was Grease, basically. I was the iconoclastic boy, she was the good girl. We hit it off big, we had'a da' romance, and we shared the same birthday... like, the exact same one... same day, same month, same year.
So, after that summer, we never saw each other again. I was off to college, she was finishing high school. We lost track of each other pretty quick (we lived hours and hours apart even before I went to college). Blah, blah, blah.
So, ten years later, she finds me. Back this past December, we met up again, for the first time in a decade--we caught up on old times, marvelled at being older, talked about how we became who we are (she'd spent a year in Belgium, time in South America; I decided I wanted to be a philosopher more than a physician). She's still foxy-foxy (cheerleader, dance-team, etc. in high school), and a green-movement environmentalist who likes camping and animals; I'm not so bad, and a dirty capitalist who likes shiny things and urban affairs.
And we spent a night together I won't go into much detail about. But it was nice.
So, we've been keeping in touch--she's back in Michigan doing Masters work--and for our birthday, I wanted to get her the most memorable present ever. I gave her instructions not to open my present until she'd seen a video I made, explaining everything. It took some work, putting the present together. EL can attest to how much work it took to get it all done.
I figure I might share that I, too, have a soul. I'm more than just some heartless Republican logician.
