Well, I have to say it's been an experience but I can not say it's one I'll probably repeat. As I have stated on a couple of other threads, I am not new to writing but I am new to posting on Literotica.

Mainly due to miscommunication, mostly my fault, I had several problems getting my first submission posted. It took 3 weeks for the first chapter of my story to show up. Once up though, I got a host of great comments until some wiseguy, who had read the story on SOL, gave away the ending half way through, not once, but several times. Then he used my story to hawk 6 of his own on SOL. Well, this angered several people who were caught up in my story and they are now threatening to report this guy to Literotica.

I did not know I could delete comments until one of the readers sent me an email. I followed his advice and deleted the comments but I fear the damage is done.

I think there is more drama being carried out under my story than in it. All and all, I don't think I would classify my experience here as good. I guess in Literotica terms I would give it 2 stars.

Tough going. If you stick with it, though, it will settle down. If you continue to post on both, you could be able to gauge having them post at about the same time. (I post simultaneously on a few, but haven't had your problem--although I've been called out because they are posted under different names, because Literotica wouldn't give me the one I use elsewhere).

SR has a good idea. Because SOL posts so quickly, you can submit here, then submit to SOL as soon as you see it post here, and it's pretty much simultaneous release. The only exception would be the rare occasion when your story goes up here in the wee hours, and even then, it should be up by 8 am at SOL.

Doesn't help with the existing stories, but going forward, it helps keep people from playing spoiler.

If spoiler-man is advertising his own stories in comments ( especially on another site ) there's a fair chance that he will get deleted once pointed out. That's one of the very few offenses where there are consequences here.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. :( Although it shows you must have a hot story! for people to want to rip it off.)

Hope you do stay. AH is good too. There is a lot of flirting but if you avoid me ;) you can get round that, and get excellent support and help with writing issues.
:rose:

For what it's worth I'm waiting on ch. 04. I caught the SOL reference on one post and figured he was either campaigning his stuff there or spoiling the end so I ignored his comments. I am digging your story.

Thanks Saxon,

I appreciate that. I think you're talking about chapter 3; I'm a little disappointed that it did not run today. I had actually submitted each chapter two days apart because of all the problems I was having; I didn't want to take a chance on them getting mixed up some how, but when 1 and 2 ran a day apart I was hoping they would continue that trend.
I'm guessing 3 will run tomorrow, 4 is anybodys guess.
I also have a flash story in the mix; I'm assuming that will run after chapter 4.
I'm enjoying the comments although I have to laugh at some who are so sure they know exactly what will happen next.
Thanks again.

Ah, I just checked

Chapter 3 will post tomorrow and 4 the next day; the flash story still shows "pending," so I'm guessing that will post Wednesday.
Again, I appreciate everyone's help. I must say, it's been an adventure. :)

Just finished 3. Now I have to wait for 4. Damn! You've written a hell of a story there. I won't score until I have read it all but you are in for a good score.

On a positive note. Now that you have deleted the comments any new reader picking up the story hasn't seen them, so the ending is not spoiled for everyone.

There is an author here who tries to advertise his own stories in comments about others. They are the only comments I have deleted in my time here.

Sorry, but I'm not your billboard.

Once again

Thanks, Saxon; your comments are very much appreciated.

I have to admit, where the number of comments is about the same as I received from the SOL readers, these are much more entertaining. Mostly what I got from SOL was "nice story," but
these show readers really getting involved with the story...I love it.

I may change my mind about submitting more stories in the future.

Besides being more plentiful, these commentators are more entertaining. Few of the SOL crowd take time to e-mail you it seems.

I can't kick about the number of emails from SOL

I got 160 emails from SOL readers over the course of all four chapters of the same story that's running here. So far I am averaging about 40 comments per chapter, so the number of responses is about the same. It's the quality of the comments that I like. I love the banter between readers and the in depth thinking about what will happen next.

I have heard really good things about SOL including quick approval times and far less nasty trolling

The downsides are their scoring system ir really odd to figure out and lit gets more traffic.

For now anyway, the pages keep wigging out as frequently as they do things could change at some point.

SOL actually re tooled their scoring. It's now a straight 1-10 scale. The submit to post time is almost non exsistant.

That's cool, awhile back Penn lady linked me to her page to look at the scoring and there was all different numbers and she said at the time she still hadn't figured it out yet. 1-10 would be pretty simple.

My only thing with SOL is the underage stories. I don;t care about 16 or so, but I think they will allow vastly younger. Then again I thought someone mentioned that may have changed as well.

The 1-10 scoring system is not as simple as it sounds

Yes, people vote from one to ten, but the scores are then weighed against the scores of the other stories running at the same time. Believe me, it's still a screwed up scoring system. They show you a bar graph as to the number of votes you get and what scores they were. My graph showed mostly 8's, with almost as many 9's, and almost as many 10's as 9's. Then there were a few 7's, 6's, and 5's...nothing below a 5, yet my score was in the low 7's. (Beats the hell out of me?) Oh well, I go by the comments more than the score.

I think there are probably pluses and minuses for both websites. I have a friend who used to submit stories here but refuses to do it anymore. He said the, "troll," situation is out of control. (His words) I really didn't experience that yet but I'm a newcomer so I'm guessing I will if I keep posting here. Out of the 160 emails I received from SOL, only two were not positive. I'm not sure what the ratio is here.

Well, this was an experiment that didn't work

I'm really astonished that this is such a popular site. In spite of all the problems I've had I still had an open mind, especially with all the great feedback I was getting; but now the last part of my story does not appear on the LW page and only shows up on the, "New," page. As a result the number of readers is EXTREMELY low. On top of that I descovered those, "trolls," I was warned of; two of them sending me emails with personal attacks and calling me names.

Now I won't say I have a thin skin but there is no need for that and I don't have to take it; this is supposed to be fun. I was going to pull the flash story but I decided to leave it up; it will be my last entry on this site, though.

I do want to thank all that helped me, once again.

I am sorry to hear that you have had such a disappointing time with your stories here at Lit. I guess my only comment would be that if you are writing to "score points" instead of simply for the joy of writing you are going to disappoint the supportive readers who have already commented on your stories. Write for the people who appreciate you, and for yourself. Ignore the rest.

Best of luck.

El, yes I agree

I'm not writing for points but I do write for fun. This was my first venture with Literotica. Right off the bat I had problems submitting; granted, a lot of it was due to my inexperience with this site but their submission guide lines are very misleading.

After getting it straightened out, it still took a couple of weeks to get the first chapter posted. I was impressed with the number of readers and the way they got involved with the story but then Lit's story page would go down after 6:30 or so and you couldn't read anything until late at night again. Now, they run the last chapter of my story today but do not list it under the category, only under "New." The prior chapters have had between 27,000 and 35,000 readers per chapter; this chapter barely has 3,000. I got an email this morning from one of the readers saying he thought the last chapter was supposed to run today but couldn't find it. Then to top it off I get a couple of emails calling me names...just too damn many problems, it's not worth it.

I do appreciate all the great feedback and would invite those who liked the story to come and read more on SOL where none of these problems exist.

First off, the number of views seems to tapper off the longer a story posts chapters. The nature of the beast.

Secondly. If your story doesn't have the votes or score it won't be on anything but the new list.

Thirdly. If it posted in Loving Wives then yes, you got the sharks and the score will suffer. Not to mention the name calling and possible death threats.

As for SOL, if you like it there then what are you doing here? To each his or her own. SOL has it's own problems.

On the topic of your new story TX is pretty much on the money with his points

As for the trolls they are by far the worst on lw.

Even though I am the type to laugh them off and suggest others do the same it does seem to be getting worse.

I would think the site would try to address ot rather than earn the rep as a bad place to post stories but the last part of TX post reflects their attitude.

Well, Tx, I would take issue with #2

The third chapter, the one before this, had 23,624 downloads, 717 votes, 37 comments, and a score of 4.54, so I doubt any of the things you listed apply. This, the last chapter, has 4235 downloads, 160 votes, and 7 comments...what do you think?

Not having chapter 4 on the Loving Wives New list yet is a true problem. A PM to Laurel would get it listed there. I had a similar problem with my most recently posted story. The explanation was that they are up to their necks in upgrading the whole system and these problems are cropping up here and there. If you PM Laurel, it should be fixed quickly.

Thanks SR

That is greatly appreciated but I'm not sure how to do that? Is there a link?

Top right of this page, the "private message" (PM) system. (You have to have your own PMs turned on.) You send one to "Laurel" (or "Manu," the system's man, but Laurel is probably better for this). It's the only way to contact them; they aren't opening e-mails, presumably because of the volume of them.

If you don't have your own PMs turned on, here are instructions for doing that, thanks to Mistress Lynn, Editorial Forum moderator: Go to User CP (top left of this page), click on Edit Options (in the left hand column), and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Make sure that the next box down (Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators) is NOT ticked. Finally click Save Changes at the bottom of that page.
