I am not sure if this topic has been covered here on lit or not.

Admittedly I am a novice, not only to the terminology but I have as of yet to find a partner to engage in more than just the stereotypical vanilla sex with. (Hope springs eternal!) And while I am so turned on by the stories and the threads, and yes I have “played” in past relationships with lite bondage, and lite S/M, what is your protocol or process for overall health and healing.

I am not talking about regular OBGYN appointments but more along the lines of Chiropractic, Massage, and Acupuncture ECT….

Do any of you receive bodywork to remediate the physical impact of a rough play session? And if so are you going to the chiropractor to resolve structural issues or to prevent them? Do you see the massage therapist to reduce stress or to resolve soft tissue damage?

At what point do you say Ow, I just need a good massage?!?!

As someone who is in love with all of my Alternative Health Care providers and as a self professed hedonist with a huge kink in her soul, I am trying to balance my desire to feel good with my need to receive pain, which can feel good as well. (Or vice versa )

Well personally...

I get used and fucked.

If I'm not dead, maimed or in lasting pain, I count it a bonus.

I haven't had any problems with my kink and my physical wellbeing. I have a couple of unrelated health issues but those are under control. Until 2 years ago I was pursuing a nursing career and that had a far more detrimental effect on me.

By all means indulge in your alternative therapy treats. Most people survive most kinks without them though.

I see as few "doctor types" as possible. D/s play has never caused me to seek help of any sort.

I'm into alternative medicine, especially Asian based, but apart from maintaining supplement intake when I think I may need a little extra, I haven't bothered with any sort of physical therapy to help me deal with SM. I did have a nice reflexology session in Malaysia recently on my way back to Europe...curiosity and the fact I had been and still was very ill. I love reflexology and have done some myself many moons ago, and this guy was fantastic...he even gave me 20 minutes extra and for areas I hadn't paid for as he realised soon after starting that my body was in a sad place and he liked me.:) None of the problems he located or for which I initially went had to do with the lifestyle though, just my badly behaving system. I floated onto the plane after that session, as painful as it had been.

I'm no pro, but I do soft tissue work both on my lifting partners and on my bottoms, as needed. Any restrictive, long-lasting ropework is ended with some massage to get the tissues working properly again.

i see an MT for shoulder issues unrelated to to BDSM. becuase my shoulder freezes up like it is, its useful to do something after we play but we dont always.
