Duran Duran, Wham, Human League, Depeche Mode, ABC, Flock of Seagulls--the UK could have kept the lot, as far as I'm concerned. (I should note that I couldn't stand U.S. "pop metal", either--Poison, Ratt, etc.--so it was a tough decade for me.) Thank goodness for the Smiths! I guess you could say I prefer guitars over synths in almost every case. Plus, I've always been a huge Elvis Costello fan, you get credit for him in the '80s.

I much prefer to listen to some nice wordy songs when im feeling normal but now and again i get the cheese urge and play them loud and proud! - not that i have any 80's cheese though i think its illegal
But wait, if you like Elvis Costello that much, i officially declare him yours to keep.
