Starting out

Uncle John Smith:

I woke up this morning and on the spur of the moment I decided that I would take a trip over to my dear sisters house to surprise her on her birthday. I figured I wouldn't call and ruin the surprise and that I would just show up. I quickly drove over to the local flower shop and decided to picked up a beautiful arrangement for you and a card to go with it. I remember growing up and all the fun we use to have together. I don't know what happened but we have grown apart lately. It could be that you have the family you have always wanted and I'm still single and searching. But deep down inside I miss them days and wish I could relive them again.

I figure by coming over and surprising you that we could spend some time together with out the rest of the family hounding you. It would be a way just to get to talk to you again like we used to. Well I pulled up your driveway around quarter to one, and started to get out of my truck grabbing the flowers and headed up to the front door.

As I opened the door to allow Doctor Stern out of the house, I was pleasantly surprised to see my brother at the bottom of the stairway to the front door.

"Hi John!" I said as I approached him to give him a hug. Doctor Stern introduced himself shortly after and then made his way to his car. It was then that my heart skipped a beat - things might have been very different if John had come by just five minutes earlier.

Doctor Stern has always been asking to date me ever since I started working for him twelve years ago. Sometimes, I wondered if the only reason he continued to keep me at his clinic as his secretary was simply because I had caught his fancy. There were many younger secretaries out there, and even some with nursing qualifications. But as it stood, I was never professionally certified as a nurse, and I drew a pretty fat paycheck. Of course, he did have one benefit in return - the body-hugging nurse outfits that he required me to wear at work, and some of them bordered along the thin line of indecency.

Knowing that it was my birthday today, he gave me half the day off, and even followed me home, his car tailing my SUV. He said that he wanted to give me my present in private. Doctor Stern was a very persistent man. Even three years into my second marriage, he was still not giving up. And today, I gave in a little, if only because of his sweet gestures, and gave him an embrace and a peck on his cheeks. I know he would have asked for more if I allowed him to. But I didn't.

As for John, my brother. Things became a little awkward after my second marriage. But it was something even I didn't quite comprehend. But I was glad to see him at my doorstep, and the fact that he remembered my birthday.

"So sis hows your day been" he asked her.

"I hope it's been okay after all it's your birthday" he added.

He had the flowers hidden behind him as she let him walk by her, and he handed them to her hoping she would like them. He watched her close the door and walk throught the living room to get to the kitchen to put the flowers in a vase with some water. She quickly came back from the kitchen with vase and flower in hand placing them on the coffee table.As she sat down John noticed her very nice long soft looking legs for a moment. But he quickly snapped out of it and looked away not wanting to get caught staring. He knew deep down inside he shouldn't be looking at her that way, because after she was his sister. But then again he was a man and she was a very beautiful looking girl after all so as long as he made no adavances nothing was wrong in his mind of taking a quick peek.

He really hoped in the back of his mind that she had not caught him staring at her. They sat there on the sofa talking about all the good times they had while growing up, and how much fun they use to have before there adult lifes got in the way of things.

I thought the conversation was taking a pretty good direction, but it would be a little too forward and abrupt to ask about why things were the way they were lately. I decided to let it slide for now, and catch up on his life for now.

"So how's the love life, little brother?" I teased. I knew he had no trouble getting dates with women and all, but it was always the commitment that proved his greatest stumbling block. He was always the ladies' man. So much that I occasionally caught him sneaking glances at my body - I guess it was a brotherly compliment in a weird sort of way.
