Me in front of the Grande Theatre (Balshoy Teatre)

Propaganda be damned. You've been to the Balshoy?

I am green with envy. Really! Greenie is completely green.

And your av is still scaring me, but now in a rather nice way............ which scares me even more!

Don't be scared.

It's just a riffy-poo.

Check this poster out. Socialist cubism or something.

ok, but riffy-poo scares me more!

Love the poster! What does it say? My Russian is limited to privyet (which I am sure is spelled wrong, but I can say it!)

Big cubist yellow man sawing big cubist yellow thing.
Story of my life I'd say

I'm gonna have to look it up. I can survive in Russia, but I am not exactly conversant with it. My best lines are "You are pleasing to me" and "Two vodkas, please" :)

Gotta shower. Look for more art later! I downloaded some good ones!

Two phrases to get you through life if ever i heard them!

compared to what?

Compared to Stalin, of course, Starblayde.

Rabotat means to work - I've forgotten all the rest.

It'll be an exhortation to work - Communism and capitalism - neither have a good theology of work - like, say the Spanish and Italians.

I just showered. Yep. I am fast. I dressed too. For a moment, I looked like my av, sans glowing eyes.

The first word is a form of work. "Rabot" It comes from the Czech and is where we got our word Robot from.

This next is one of my favorites. It's celebrates the multinationalism of the USSR. Originally, the Russians got the shaft- with the czar gone, Russia became just another republic of the USSR. Not to worry, Stalin changed that and the USSR became the former Russian Empire in Soviet garb.

Workers unite.... for the state... listen to me...

usual crap really.... just with some interesting design aspects

You look so innocent, Riff.

This is me in front of Lenin's tomb. Innocent? You only wish you had slept with the Russkaya I did the night before! LOL

What's in the bag, Riff? Russkaya's undies? A big address book?

I'm off to my shrink. I bet she sacks me.

You look about as happy as Lenin.... you should be smiling your ass off!

This one is beautiful... reminds me of the byzantinesque icons you will find in the Russian Orthodox Churches.

For all you feminists out there. Despite the ruthlessness of the Soviet compound, Soviet women had career opportunities that were socially unacceptable in the USA.

Sadly, however, women were and are still treated poorly in Russia by most men. To quote a Russian misogynist, "If you don't beat a Russian woman, you are depriving her of her heritage." And people wonder why so many would like to come to the West.

I must add, however, that Russian women are very strong. Different from so many women in the west who feel that in order to be strong, they must become masculine.

I'm not so sure about that. I always thought Rosie the Riveter embodied the ideal of Social Realism womanhood. Give me a strong American woman who knows what to do with a big tool. She is soooo hot. ;)

I hear you. I get erections.

Have you been to Russia? I live in America and was born here. I am an American. Everything I see is colored by my glasses.

Russian women rock. American women rock.

Women rock.

All I am saying is that Russian women are different. And they are. And they are in a way that can be very special. I don't mean this in a sexist way. In fact I wish every American could submerge themselves into Russians. I think (I think), that if they did this they would more understand what American really means.

I have Never been to Russia, but of course I would love to go. I have a close friend who is Ukrainian, but she gets very mad if anyone mistakes her for a Russian. Go figure!

Ukranians are a distint country that was part of the Russian Empire. The Soviets redifined the Russian Empire and Stalin tried starving the Ukranians to death with forced collectivization and quotas.

Ukranians are Ukrainians. Russians are Russians,

Anti-Capitalist one here

That one is great riff! I was laughing and recoiling at the same time. It often amazes me how these "propaganda" posters are just so sharply social commentaries and art at the same time.
