Politics are heating up in the battle for the Democratic nomination.

Who get's to sit back and quietly collect money for his re-election?
King George.

Two books that I urgently ask people to read...

Author: Molly Ivans

Title: Bushwacked : Life in George W. Bush's America

Title: Shrub : The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush

This man is beyond evil. Our children and their children will still be paying for the rape of America. If we live that long. It is way beyond gay politics. Please read and be informed, if not already so. Peace.

I saw Bushwhacked in a book store recently and chuckled at the title. It is so true. I should read something like that, I'd get a real kick out of it and it would depress me all at the same time. Unfortunately, I usually never get around to reading anymore since I'm glued to my computer screen so much now. Well, at least I get to vote this time around! Arg! No more Bush!

Also check out Paul Krugman The Great Unraveling.

I'll have to check that out as well. Couldn't beleive that he had everything from his driving record in Texas to his financial ties to big oil...all his personal and political records sealed in his father's library for 100 years. The man has made himself an enigma from public scrutiny. What is known is pretty scary stuff.

Read it. And welcome to Lit. and GLBT. I haven't decided who to back on the Democratic side yet...like a lot of people, it may end up who can beat Bush, right or wrong. I just want my country back ( Where did I put that info on Canadian citizenship? )

Exactly. But then again, sometimes I feel like I shouldn't say "anyone else but Bush" because then I may have to eat my words later when the new prez turns out to be just as bad. I sure hope that doesn't happen. I'd like to think that there will be a prez who can solidly support controversial sides of things, such as legal gay marriages (none of this civil union crap...even as a straight girl I feel offended by this attempt at a compromise) or keeping abortion legal (politicians need to keep repeating "choice, choice, choice...the US is supposed to be a country of choice...illegalizing abortion gets rid of a choice...choice choicd choice"). Back when I couldn't vote, it all seemed so easy, but of course, lucky me, I get to vote when it's really difficult. *sigh* Sorry for the rant. :(

A good democratic candidate is Dennis Kucinich. www.kucinich.us is his webpage, check it out. Doubtful he'll win the nomination, but he should pull some progressive votes in the primaries...

I think, for those of us who are going to vote in the democratic primaries, it is of great importance that we vote for a candidate who best represents our interests and our views. This will send a message to the more centrist wings of the democratic party that they have progressive voters to whom they must be responsive. And if they aren't responsive, then vote 3rd party... Socialist Party USA (try SPUSA.com or spusa.org)... Natural Law Party (Kucinich, I have heard, will be on their Presidential ticket)... Greens... etc. Democrats can't take the progressive vote for granted while they move more to the center to pick up the necessary votes to become president.

Peace

SHRUB! I love that book! I borrowed it from one of my friends and it was great. Very informative and also entertaining. It really made me realize what kind of sleaze Dubya really is.

I've been told about him a while ago, after I bitched about how I just hate politicians in general because of their constant mudslinging when I just want to hear their positions (which probably just end up being lies anyway). Someone told me that Kucinich usually doesn't banter as much as the other candidates, which is a plus in my book. I went unenrolled when I registered to vote, so I'm not doing the primaries, I just hope that those who are make a good decision. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, there's a qoute from Molly in the beginning of the book that struck me. Talking of how he managed to take the two billion won from Big Tobacco and hand it out in a tax cut he had promised (there was NO money to pay for it) to get votes running for President.

"This guy is not just lucky; if they tried to hang him, the rope would break."

You're reading stuff on the computer screen. That counts.

None of the Democratic candidates would be as bad as Bush. He's already done so much to make this country safe for big business and the religious right while trampling on ordinary citizens. It will take decades to undo the damage Bush has already caused. I hate to think what will happen if he has a second term and gets to appoint more Supreme Court Justices.

Please, Please, Please DON'T vote for a third party!

That's what handed the election to Bush in 2000.

Mmm, yeah, that's a scary thought...and just when I was starting to like the Supreme Court for ruling that sodomy laws are unconstitutional (like that was a hard decision...).

Okay, whoever suggested Kucinich...ugh.

I'm all for getting Bush outta office...I didn't think I could be more disgusted with him than I was, but then I listened to his State of the Union Address. Yeah.

Anyway, about Kucinich...what he wants to do is completely irresponsible. True, he may not be a "typical" candidate banter-wise, but is that a good enough reason to vote for him? I'm voting for the candidate that has the qualities I want and doesn't have those that I don't want.

So far I'm fond of three...though I need to narrow down my choices significantly and very, very soon. I really like Edwards, though I'm not sure he'll have a chance...though after the Iowa caucus, maybe :D. I also like Kerry A LOT, and Dean is okay. It's like they've been saying in the news -- voters seem to "date Dean and marry Kerry".

I'll figure it out, I suppose, though I agree with the idea of just getting Bush out. I dont' want to eat my words later, either, but I think it's worth it at this point. ANd I don't think it's a negative sign of the voter to want this; I think it's just a really bad sign of horrible and disgusting leadership on Bush's part!

I agree completely with everything you said. The cost of Dubya's Four year reign of plundering the country for his rich friends and the steps back socially, will be paid for by generations.

Not this election...we need every progressive person to vote for someone who can beat the current administration. If it was an election where the Democrats had it pretty well sown up, I'd support a strong third party candidate. Just to give the Centrists at the head of the Party fair warning.

If the Democrats had the election sewn up, I'd vote third party, too.

That's probably not going to happen in my lifetime. The country is evenly divided and will stay that way for a long time.

Hi, I empathise with you. My suggestion would be to start thinking now as it is pretty much a done deal-I am seriously considering expatriating myself for a couple of years. This country is going to be one big Walmart. Get ready (sigh!)

Another good book is "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" by Al Franken. The subtitle, "A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," got Franken sued by Fox News, giving the book a fantastic amount of publicity.

The suit was thrown out.

That book is all over the place up in the Pioneer Valley of MA. I think it's a hilarious title, even though I haven't read it (yet), and it figures that Fox News would sue...

Fox News also came close to suing "The Simpsons" for running a fake news ticker in an episode.

Matt Groeneg was quoted as saying, "We figured we'd get away with it because Rupert Murdock is too cheap to sue himself."
