Elon Musk introduced (without notice) a new "social isolation" policy on Twitter yesterday. Going forward, no account can link to essentially any other social media site. 😧

Linking to any of the above is now a banhammer offense.

Folks will just use formatting tricks to get around the algorithm.

What about lists in bios/profile?

I'd honestly say there are multiple "news" sites which should be prohibited as well...specifically those with pass-through or copy/pasta content....but I think they should be prohibited to exist.

I actually don't mind this rule.

But, as with his moves for everything, the fast-moving and oddly reasoned changes to platform policies is what pisses me off. Yes, he can do what he wants, but from a user experience perspective, the goal is always slow increment changes and fully thought-out policy changes. As a user, I would appreciate yearly policy changes with clear goals.

And if he wants to transform the platform, then collect changes over a period of time, properly vet them and give users advance notice.

I agree. Twitter is not meant to be a news outlet and by allowing all platforms to post their links and stories-half or more of which aren't fact based, it can set twitter up to be liable, so why allow it?

My only ask of it is that it is 100% across the board enforced with no bias one way or the other. Imagine how less cray twitter-or any place would be-if the media and politicians weren't allowed to keep riling people up?

Yes, and it should be retroactive.

But seriously..we all know it won't be consistently enforced and he will announce some change to it at 3am after a bungee via tweet.

I actually to used to like Musk a little. I dig the space stuff and don't care about cars so it was all good. Then he started going batshit. Or maybe just more batshit. I don't know but can't hardly stand him these days. Insufferable little twat.

It has the feel of a temper tantrum. He's been in a bad mood lately. Maybe he needs his bottle and a nap.
I feel it's "on the fly" leadership, a leader who feels he must make decisions without having all the facts in OR regard for the consequences, because he wants to be seen as "decisive"....but "tantrum" works for me as well.

I think I like him when he's on his meds

I always viewed Musk much like I viewed Trump.: A nepobaby not much different from all the others who had a certain lane that they belonged in.

And just like Trump, once Musk branded himself as some sort of Messianic figure to exploit the gullible / garner attention for various reasons, I saw him as a potential threat to society.

Neither failed to live up to my worst expectations of how they would abuse real social power if they ever attained it.

SAD!!!

Twitter deleted its controversial new policy on Sunday evening that had banned links to certain other social media platforms, less than 24 hours after the policy’s initial introduction.

Billionaire genius, right?
