Regardless of your sexual orientation...

Do you like Musicals?

West Side Story - The Music Man - South Pacific - etc?

My SO and I were debating this - he says they are the lowest form of theater and I disagree.

What do you think?

I, for one, LOVE musicals.
There's nothing like singing and dancing to enhance the storyline.

The "lowest form of theater"? Please.

I love 'em... except for the really bad ones...

That's what I said, Mona. And I brought up the point about how it was different that opera, which he loves.

No dancing in Opera, and better songs, he says.

Thanks sweet soft kiss. Which are really bad?

I loved South Park the movie.. That is a musical right?

I'm way into musicals.

Hubby prefers opera, but he's biased.

Because of where I'm located I haven't had the chance to really see a great production.. but I'd love to.

Just some small stage stuff years ago which I enjoyed, and ones where they've turned them into movies.

I love watching musicals. I hate acting in them. I can never get the steps right. I think life should be a musical, and we should all know the lyrics and dance and sing in the streets when the mood hits us. We should each come with a one man band. :)

Um... well I remember going to a musical called TV Time or TV Tube that I guy I worked with was in.. It was horrible...

Sometimes Film versions of shows that are great on the stage fall totally flat... Like Man of La Mancha... great on stage, especially if you were lucky enough to see Richard Kiley... but the movie? Big Stinkeroonie...

I am sure that given time I could come up with more examples... but I usually love musicals....

I saw "Sunday in the Park with George" two days ago. An outstanding local production.

My VCR fouled up on recording Disney's "The Music Man", but that I don't regret.

Better songs?

Just because most of 'em are in a different language doesn't make them better.
Shame on him. Rodgers and Hammerstein would not be pleased.

Thanks Nora. It just struck me odd that he had such violent thoughts against musicals when he liked opera so much...

Thanks kitty. I love them - big or small, professional or amateur... as long as people can sing on tune.

Thanks Eumenides. I like watching *and* acting in them - but I like dancing so... and I like the idea of the band. No need to ask "how are you?" anymore, just listen to the tune of the band.

Thanks phrodeau. I watched most of "The Music Man", but I have to say I liked the original better.

Ooh...think we could market it?

I *know*. I like understanding my music. Not that I don't appreciate opera, but hey - it's more enjoyable to me.
