I doubt I could recomend anything you would like. But, the last CD I heard that moved me enough to own it was Chris Whitley's "Living With the Law".
Awesome lyrics and passionate playing. Great writing and a lot of subleties that you dont catch at first listen.

Therion is great and hard to describe. They have a dark sound to them while mixing classical music sounds with rock. I have 4 of their 11 Cd's and if you can find any of their cds I suggest finding songs off of Deggial, Secret of the runes, and Vovin. Their first 3 cds have more of a death metal sound to them. If anyone likes Therion I suggest you check out Tristania, Theater of Tragedy, and The Sins of Thy Beloved.

Are you thinking the lead singer for Nickelback? That's Chad Kroeger.
My suggestions: Rock wise go with Neurotica, Injected, Our Lady Peace, Treble Charger... If you are into hip hop and rap then Swollen Members is a favorite of mine.
Just to name a few.
